Used my 50-70 roller for these two in 2012 and 2013. Got a Coues Whitetail last fall with it as well.'

Odd, only one photo will load....

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

I haven't hunted deer since the mid seventy's but, I'm plagued with digger squirrels.

I used to shoot them with my re-barreled (Douglas) H&A 922 but, about 10 years ago, I had someone move in to the property next door (300 ft away) and have had to use my Remington RB, 20 ga since then.

Not as cheap or as fun as the 922 but, #6 doesn't travel as far.

Not really hunting, but my garden defense rifle is a rebarreled .22 Favorite.   My neighbours aren't so close, and anyway I'm shooting into a rather big hill.

Back in my Hunting days. Ruger #1B 6MM Rem. 80gr. Speer Bulllet and I also used it to shoot my last Mule Deer Buck in Colo. and the last of my Hunting trips. The year I lost my Hunting partner and then took up competitive shooting.

Used an original Sharps 44/90 on deer and two turkeys in Utah and and Virginia.  And a Fisher cat in Maine--don't ask.  Plus Sika deer in Maryland.  Went elk hunting twice in the Bob Marshall with it but never got a shot.

Use a CC Johnson re-barreled Sharps Borchardt 22 Lovell for ground hogs every year.  And pesky beavers around the pond.

Used a Maynard 25-20 SS on prairie dogs in Montana (out to two hundred yards) and ground hogs in Virginia.

Use Maynard's in  32-30, 40-40, 38-50, 25-21, for more ground hogs on the farm.

Used a Model 1 Maynard .50 cal on deer and ground hogs in Virginia.  With no one around to witness it, offhand at 173 yards killed the worlds unluckiest ground hog with a shot thru the head and a deer at 105 yards facing me thru the neck.

.60 cal flintlock for turkey and deer in Virginia and Sika deer in Maryland.

I have taken several Kansas white tail deer with a Ruger #1 25-06, never fired a factory load in it. I took a deer with a Schmidt Habermann stalking rifle 8.15x46 with a 185gr cast gc bullet. I don't feel the 8.15 with cast bullets is humane on deer sized animals. This year I plan on useing an Austrian Alex. Henry in 8x50r 205gr cast gc. 23grs of SR4759 pushes it at 1900 fps with no pressure signs.

Don't hunt exclusively with single shots but I've taken 14 whitetails with my Ruger #1b, 30-06. Eight with a 45 caliber flintlock and one with a 54 caliber Mississippi repro.
Hunted with a trapdoor years ago but without any luck. Epoxied a finish nail of the correct height to the front sight so it would shoot dead on, otherwise it shot three feet high at 100 yards with the 385 grain Lyman bullets I was casting at the time.
I have a nice Stevens 414 that serves as a small game and varmint gun alongside a Stevens 44 in 32-20.
Should have a roller back from the shop this spring that is being rebarreled to 38-55 that will serve time next fall for deer.
Use open sights on all but the Ruger.
I don't feel handicapped with a single shot while hunting.

In 1969 I built a Martini with an Ackley barrel in 30/40AI, have used it almost exclusively since.  Puts 3 180 Hornady RN in 3/8" consistently. Have recently retired it to shooting cast, seems more fittin' and accuracy hasn't changed.  Also took a doe last season with a Cadet in .357Max, 190gr cast PP.  GW

Nice hog John! I just picked up a Ruger #1 in 7x57, but haven't started to work up loads for it yet. I hope it might like cast bullets, as I'd enjoy shooting it with cast if it does. I have an old Lyman 7mm mold that drops a  180 grain .287" bullet, and used it a lot for a couple old Mauser bolt  guns I owned years ago. Might need to be sized down for a proper fit in the Ruger.
My #1 is a light sporter weight barrel, and that's probably the only thing I'm not crazy about. I'd prefer the heavier barrel your Ruger has in the picture.

Shot more deer with TC 54 cal muzzle loader than with modern turnbolts. Shot numerous foxes long ago with an original Win LW 32-20. Now use another original Win LW 32-20 for turkey hunting -- it is one of several rifles I have taken turkeys with, including 7X57R barrel of German kombi gun.

Do muzzle loaders count as single shot rifles?
