Ray I bought a Forester and have never regretted doing so and having tried others the fault found in them was in the quality of the cutters of being by far of less quality. I have owned my Forester since the 70's and I have yet to change the original cutter that came with it. But also keep in that it might have since changed as it seems as the years go by the quality of all things now being made also tends to be of inferior quality compared to what was made in the past.

I like the Lyman. It is a nice heavy duty trimmer and has a univeral case holder that locates in the primer pocket. Mine came with a bunch of pilots, too.

There are many good ones though.

Lee makes a great trimmer you can run in an electric drill if you can get it in the right size.

I've got an old RCBS2 that has the collet shell holder - needs new cutter + pilots. May switch to a new Forster (?) ......... or, should I just get the cutter + pilots & save some bux?  Thank you, my friends.

The Forester is a fine trimmer, if you get one also buy the drill adaptor for it makes trimming very painless and fast. Plus it works great for neck turning.

Over the years, I purchased RCBS, the Redding 2400, Forster, and lee case trimmers. I find the L.E. Wilson is the easiest to use, very accurate, and repeatable.

A few years ago, I sold my Redding 2400 with micrometer to purchase a L. E. Wilson from Sinclair. The model I purchased, "The Ultimate Trimmer and Platform", has a micrometer head and an adapter to use and electric drill/screwdriver is available.

I have 2 Forsters and find nothing wrong with them. I also picked up a Wilson a couple of years back at a gun show. They are expensive new but can usually be found for cheap at the shows. Again its an excellent trimmer but the bushings for it can be a bit expensive.

I've had a Forster since the '70's and it still works fine.  I did have to order a new cutter a couple of years ago.  They say (or they did say) that to hold the collet for the 45-70 the unit needs to be sent back to them to be altered.  It can be done on a lathe in a few minutes.

Forster will sharpen your cutter for something like $9 plus shipping.

Forster.  Every time I do a batch I think about buying a motorized one, but it must not hurt enough because I never do. My "trimming"  is very often a second operation to radically shortening a case.  The first cut I do on my lathe.  The trimmer still has to take .010 - 020 off, so I work hard.  The cutter is still fine after several thousand cases in fifteen years.  Custom pilots are easy to make.

Hey Ray,

I've been using a Forster I purchased close to 20 years ago to replace my old RCBS trimmer. The RCBS still works well, I just prefer the Forster.

I like my Lyman because it cuts well, but also has the universal shell holder, so I don't need to change shell holders when I change brass. It's also quick release so a 1/4 turn on the handle releases the shell to remove it.
I'm too cheap to buy the power unit, so I removed the crank handle and made up a shaft to thread into it's place. I put my battery drive drill motor on it, and it works great to power it.

Thanks all. I think I can get decent results with my old RCBS with some upgrades for under $30-. In the "next life", I'd sure give serious consideration to the Forster, but would probably go the extra mile for the Sinclair/Wilson.
