another 32-40 brass question

Making mine from 38-55 Win short brass  anneal then use imperial sizing wax, RCBS trim die and FL resize. Never in 20 years of shooting straight walled cases have i had to trim BUT  by every 2nd or 3rd or so reload of 32-40 brass it has grown so much it must be trimmed back to 2.120.  This in in both a relined win 94 and a rebarreled 1885.   Am i doing something wrong?

Ballards may be weaker,

I've never anneald .38-55 or .32 Win. Spl. cases to reform to .32-40 and never had them grow either.
But my loads are pretty mild compared to what many folks shoot. I shoot 170 or 190 bullets at around 1350 fps.

I have not seen the need to anneal once-fired cases of any donor caliber. I use Unique lube, and go about it a little differently with each case. With .38-55 (I only have a few), I just go in stages- about four. When they fit the chamber, I quit. With .32 Spl, I just run 'em into the f.l. die and go about working them like I will for fixed or BSing. With .30-30, I knock the shoulder off in a couple of passes and then run the expander into the neck.
Once formed they get the usual prep that we give our cases- trim to uniform length, etc. And they last forever- I now have enough cases to last for a few lifetimes, I think.
Question: Why is it that angst over short cases shows up so often with .32-40 shooters? I know two fellows that shoot the hell out of .45-70 cases in their .45-90s, and guys make short cases out of others, too, like the .303 British into various other things.

So, the brass case is only to hold the powder charge, not the bullet (in the case of a breech seated bullet)?  And since the cases is ALWAYS go in/out of the same chamber, the case should not grow in length, since we are not doing a cold working of the brass?  I think I'm slowly beginning to get the picture.  Thanks.

That's the general idea.  I have had cases grow when breech seating with black powder though, depending on the chamber design.   Annealing when breech seating with black powder has never worked out for me.
