Has anyone else had any trouble stabilizing this bullet in a known 14 twist barrel?

Please let us / me know if you have.

Frank,

That bullet shot well in my 14 twist Green Mountain barrel on my High wall with no sign of tipping. I posted a photo of the 5 shot group in the original thread on that bullet.

Thank you, Jack. Yes, I saw your group and Bob's LV target. I'm supprized at this report and that's why I'm asking for others experiance with this bullet. It shouldn't tip in a 14 twist barrel.

Mal, are you using BP or smokeless and has the twist rate been measured?

I'm going to buy that NOE mold.  Do you need their handles or will other handles fit?

Noe makes their mold for the Lee, 6 cav handles but, if you have any RCBS handles, they will also work for the 1 & 2 cavity molds.

Hi all,
Mal is referring to me.

Please don't be concerned, upon re-checking the twist it is only 1:16.
I knew it probably would not stabilize, but was up for the challenge.

I have ended up with a great, easy to use mold, so no problems from me.
it is a consistant 1"shooter.  Amazingly enough even when tipping the groups were very very good.

Cheers Ian.

Thank you, Ian for letting us know what the twist actually is. I'm very supprized that it will stabilize at all.

Using the NOE 322-215-SP, a copy of the Lyman 321471, mold in two rifle barrels; a Shilen with 1 in 14" twist and a RKS gain twist. Both rifles are CPA Stevens in .32-20, the chambers do not interchange the cases from the other rifle. The alloy is 25 Pb / 1 Sn with the load 9.0 grains Accurate #9 and Federal Small Pistol primer.

This bullet is nominally two grain lighter and a a few thousandths shorter with my alloy - giving a bullet of 211,0 to 211.5 grains from a four-cavity bronze mold. There is no tipping or keyholing at 100 and 200 yards with these rifles and this load. I will be working with other powders this coming Spring to get better accuracy.

Perhaps experimentation with load and seating depth for a slight increase in velocity will help the situation.
