German schuetzen rifle

First I would like to thank the moderators for allowing me to join your group. I have recently acquired a nice German Schuetzen rifle. I have been trying to find some information on it to know avail. I came across the ASSRA web page and hoped someone here could help me out. It is a 32-40 caliber and was rebarreled by Dave R. Taylor. It has a black powder approved proof mark and a final proof mark on the receiver. That is all I know of the gun. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks again for allowing me to join.

It looks like a rebarreled Martini type (System), German Schuetzen. Although the top of the rear section of the barrel, vaguely looks like it could have a rail. The forearm, for sure looks American and doesn't match the butt stock wood. The pictures are very blurry.

The proof marks should be on the barrel, under the forearm. How sure are you that it's 32/40 caliber?

If that was a rail on the top flat next to the action I was thinking that perhaps it was a generously bored 8.15x46R that has been shortened enough to clear the chamber for a 32-40 reamer. But, it looks like a long barrel is still there and it does look like a false muzzle with a sight blocker is on the front which could mean a good US 32-40 barrel has been fitted to the action. We need more clues.

Found a Dave R. Taylor - was in Little Hocking, Ohio who made barrels.  Died in the '60s.  Agree if it has a false muzzle in 32-40 it's most likely U.S. made.
Nice looking rifle!

Regards, Joe

I believe what I was refering to, as now seen in Joe's reduce picture, is just a reflection of the base of the brass lamp in that back ground.

Would bet the forearm is also a replacement, and a fine one at that!

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Right click your mouse on the picture. Then click on "open link" in the pop up window. It will come up clear, and as it was originally photographed.
