Here is a 34-year-old appraisal from a 32/40 Stevens which was part of my grandfather's collection.  I love finding information like this!

And here is a link to the current photos of this rifle:

That is one beautiful rifle. And really neat with the paperwork you found. Enjoy. Dale.

Beautiful Stevens rifle! Interesting that the appraiser referred to it as a "German-American Schuetzen Rifle". Did your grandfather have any tools or shooting kit with his Stevens also?

I love a straight grip schuetzen.  There is just something so clean about the lines.

An appraisal has but one value only and that is the listed monetary value of the item, being appraised, at some point in time. Yet you decided not to share that information, wondering why? The picture of the rifle is very nice, of a very nice rifle, however you could have wrote the information you chose to share on any piece of paper and posted that.

I was wondering the same? it is a 30+ year old appraisal and has no meaning today so why blank out the amount ??

Thanks, Don

Yeah, I would have found it both fun and interesting to see what the gun was valued at 30 years ago. Surely wouldn't hurt anything today.

I have about forty years worth of old "gun report" magazines with their antique gun ads, and a couple of Charles Edward Chapel's old gun value books from the 1940-55 time frame. The prices would make make  you cry. Chapel doesn't even bother to include the very rifles that we so cherish. Nada, zip, unh-unh. The value appraisal from the time frame this one represents isn't exactly a state secret. It would be fun to compare this rifle to some similar ones from the ol' Gun Report ads where they show up in occasional ads. 'Course, if you don't want to share it, nobody is any the worse off either. Please think about it.
It sure is an attractive rifle, and one that you must be pleased to own, coming to you the way it did. Thanks for showing it to us.

The appraisal, if you click on it to zoom in in full has the appraised value and comparable value of a sold rifle blanked out.  I can't imagine why he thinks this way but for some reason the poster feels it's no-one's business.  His actions sure don't fit in with the normal posters on the ASSRA forum
BTW, he has logged on after the many replies have been made to his post.

What is the point of an appraisal without a value?

Whatever information the owner shares is his choice; heck, I'm glad enough for the chance to lust after the rifle.

Mr. Lawrence, that is how I feel as well. My post above was to ask if he'd consider adding that information, but also to show respect for his wish, should he choose to leave that part veiled. I don't see any big secret to this, but I do know that I've been less than forthcoming about the price paid for some of my stuff. You know, like telling the wife a gun only cost $xxx when it really was $xxxx,
or something similar. If it's how he wants it, good enough. And, it is a lust worthy rifle, ain't it?
