Help ID a Martini

Hello,

I'm trying to identify what appears to be a fairly heavily modified BSA Martini 12/15.

I WILL POST LINK TO PHOTOS IN THE POST BELOW.

It bears quite a resemblance to the the “Freeland Super 22 Target Rifle”.

I'm also trying to learn more what the barrel stamping might indicate:

GREG. BBL.
22 L.R.
INSTD. BY A.F.S.S. 5/24/50

Some have suggested the "A.F." portion of the stamp *could* reference Al Freeland.

Any insight into this would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I think the "AF" marking is Al Freeland and this could be a transitional model. The iron sights are similar to the Mark I model which I have. The stock is also similar to a Mark I and the trigger adjustment screws could have been put in separately.

Everything you ever wanted to know about a BSA Martini, but were afraid to ask: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Thanks for posting that link. Looks to have a trigger shoe installed, over travel stop for the trigger and don't know what the front trigger guard screw was supposed to do but would guess it's for a adjustment for trigger pull. Greg. on the barrel may be Gregoire (spelling) who made barrels. Action looks to be a thick walled one similar to a BSA 12/15. beautiful rifle. And yes Al Freeland would be my guess as to who did all the assembly work. Thanks for sharing. Frank
