A rifle that looks that good might turn a fellow into a Rolling Block fan if he weren't one already. Pretty slick, I think.
But, ya gotta clock the screws......................... Wink

Well I surely love that wood Joe! But then I love the whole gun as well! I want to build up a couple more Rolling Block actions I have here, and hope I can find someone to correctly bend the lower tang, or possibly locate a pistol grip lower tang to swap into one of them! Still don't have a #1 Roller in pistol grip, and yours is perfect!

Well, I know what ya mean about the weather making things tough. We can't get to the range because of a road that's washed out. And, the places out in the hills are probably treacherous and to be avoided. I have a coupe new things to try myself, but not as nice as the rolling block. Probably sharing the same storms so we'll get out about the same time.
Still like that doggone wood- and what's attached to it. Never mind the screws, they don't matter to real gun lovers.

Well you could shrink the barrel by tossing it out in that pile of snow, but I don't know what to do with the chamber- electric heater?

Amen to that. If you shoot them it means you generally pull them apart to clean/fix things and they don't stay 'clocked'. Very nice. Go shoot it.

BTW - who did the checkering?
Who lengthened the barrel?

Mighty pretty piece of wood and rifle.  If you don't mind my .02, the type of steel, cutting oil / lube / coolant, and temperature of the material at the time of reaming can make a big difference in the finished size of chambers cut with the same reamer.  I don't know how far off yours is, but if it was mine and I was sure of the reamer, I wouldn't hesitate reaming it again.  It only takes a miniscule amount to make a notable difference when dealing with tapers.

What is this sun thing you speak of?

How was the stock finished??  It seems perfect to me, pores all filled and the satin sheen turns into a deep 3-d when the light changes.  I'd like to know how to do that!

I got to shoot it a couple weeks ago at Blackfoot. Real loud and kicks hard. My hand got froze to the rifle when taking it out of the case. Had to hold it under the exhaust pipe to get loose. Ears were so cold thought they might fly off when I fired the first shot. Five shots was all I could get off before I started locking up from the cold wind. Fifty yards was as far as I could get to set a target without snow shoes. The whole thing was a dumb idea but it does go bang.

Sounds like a typical winter day helping dad when I was a kid only no shooting.  You wonder why I don't go  back?  Roll Eyes

You were young and tender and would do anything your Dad.  Now you're old and tough, been through it all. Plus now you could stay in the house where it's warm, like me.   Wink

Here's the roller with the new MVA sights installed.

Yep, too many years wet and cold.  Warm and dry from here on out  Grin

Are you starting a Roller collection to rival the Ballards, Joe?

I will be bringing my 38-55 High Wall again.  I have some Swiss 3F on the way.  Going for tighter groups this time.  We should get some details together and see how many others want to participate.  Pete shot last year.  Maybe Sue and Gary would be interested.  Any restriction on position.  I am thinking sitting (on a soft pad) using cross stix Canadian style with one hand on the stix might be more comfortable.

Joe, your gorgeous Rolling Block prompted me to get going on my own Rolling Block project. It wont be as high end as yours, but it will be a pistol grip sporting rifle. I've had a .43 Spanish sporting rifle for awhile. Picked up one of the pistol grip trigger plates that Numrich bought from Remington, and fitted it to the action.
Have a stock set, and a 1:16 GM full octagon barrel that will be cut to 34" and chambered in .40-65 Win. The donor action has a crack in the upper tang, so I need to weld that up and slim down the tang to sporting width. Hope to have it shooting by this summer if all goes well for fitting and finish work.

I am fine with iron sights.  BP and scopes just don't really fit.  Prone is usually fine except at Spokane.  I will try to remember to bring my shooting mat.  It was a bit cramped shooting between the benches.  I like the idea of moving out to the dirt.  Now all we need are a couple of real buffaloes.

A live buffalo shoot? Well, it is private property.  Would have to talk to Tommy about it. Problem would be the increased interest. Might have to have four relays at least.  Making me hungry thinking about it............

Well, there is always a live turkey shoot available Smiley

Just put the feeder up on the 200 yard line.

We could have a good feed the next day, assuming you guys do well.
