Hand priming tool

I have a nice Pope style set up for 38/55 size case heads.  All other use a pair of Lees one set for small primers other for large. Box Lee Shell holders too.  Plastic is worn out on th large one. lee no longer stocks parts. Bought the new "Safe" model.  What a piece of junk. Safe alright, so safe it won't work.

Need one that accepts lee prime all shell holders. One I am looking at is the K & M 62 bucks and accepts Lee. Anybody use one ? Have another suggestion ? Pope style spoiled me, works very good others not so good.

Load many calibers need one that will change shell holders, and sticking with Lee Holders saves a lot of money

That's a good recommendation.

I have the K&M gauge tool.  It is a very nice piece of machinery.

Two trusted opinions Guess I'm sold.

Jack I saw that indicator equipped model. Am a sucker for nice machinery and have more indicators than I need.  Strictly a offhand shooter probably won't buy the indicator model.  Bench rest looking for the last word in precesion it's probably very worthwhile.

Read on the internet all the time one primer vs another . Never see anything on how it's seated. Guessing from feel variances hand seating it's important.

Been using the Century 21 priming tool since it was recommended to me by fellow high power shooters several years ago.

Once you use one you'll wonder how you ever lived with anything else. Like the K&M, a bit expensive........... but, the proof is in the pudding and it adjusts in something like 0.005" increments for seating depth. For instance, R-P brass needs to be let off 2-clicks on the adjustment from Starline brass due to the slightly different rim thickness. Comparing it to a Lee or one of the cheap models is like comparing a $300 Russian shotgun to a Perazzi, etc. As any good high power benchrest shooter will tell you, consistent primer seating is just another key to good accuracy. Do it the same every time.

That looks like a good one, web site seems to say it needs a special shell holder, if so that's a deal breaker for me. Would have to buy a dozen shell holders.

I've been using the K&M since the early 90's.  Another one to look at is a Lyman 310 priming die in the nutcracker handles.

Boats,

I have a bunch of the lee primer tools.  Been going to ebay them.  Some of them I just have the plastic tray, but not the punch and spring.  What plastic parts do you need?

Yes.  The indicator model is overkill for anything but the most demanding, crazy-making benchrest applications.  I only used it for the .32-20 CPA.

I use a Simmons for all other schuetzen applications.

Hi Boats. Are you using the tray type Lee priming tools that feed the primers, instead of loading them in the tool one at a time?

Though it's a bit pricey, I've been considering the 21st. Century auto feed that uses the Lee tray and shell holders. It looks to be well made and seems to have a very convenient depth adjustment feature. Not to drift off of your topic, but I wonder if folks have tried that hand primer?

The new lee has sort of a elevator and shelf. Primer is raised and held seperate from the tray on the shelf, then slides into "battery" allowing positioning under the primer pocket.

Principle good, so much mechanism with cheap components it won't prime cases without a lot of fiddling .

SS Dave all I need are the plastic trays and clear covers. No plungers or springs.  Have some extras let me know.

I've been using the same Lee hand priming tool for over 2 decades, and thank God it's still working! Mine is one of the early versions with the round primer trays. I found another NIB at our local gun show for $5 a few years ago, and grabbed it up, in case I ever wore out my first one!
