I had one in .357 Magnum and liked it, but traded it off for another rifle since I already had a lever action in 357 mag. It had a great, very accurate button rifled barrel.   I have had a few 22 Hornets and wanted to give this one a try.  The articles I read said the Hornet in these rifles was pretty accurate.  The rifling twist is correct, so we'll see.  I'll crank around on some loads to see what it likes.  I am going to start with 45 grain .224" jacketed Remington bullets, 2400 powder and go from there.

Thanks!  I've got some 4227.  But Have not been able to find any Lil Gun on the shelf.  May have to order it.  I've read some impressive data using the Lil Gun.

40 or 45 grain Sierras and 296 was a good combination for me.  Li'l Gun is even better.

I wish there were more makers of small falling blocks.  The '74 Sharps I find too ugly to consider; ditto the EA Brown. The wee Hagn is sweet but oh so spendy.

Both of my Hornets, a H&R and a Ruger 77/22, perform much better with 1680 than with 4227 or 'Lil Gun.  FWIW.  GW

Not a single shot, but my Winchester Model 70 .22 Hornet is amazing with a Sierra 45 gr. Hornet bullet, Alliant 300MP, and a Remington 7 1/2 primer.

I have to agree. Too bad they don't produce a mini Sharps 78 or Borchardt.

All of the rifles you mentioned are good looking guns.  Especially the lines of the Hagn.  But  I love the side hammer Sharps Rifle.  Its just a rugged yet majestic looking gun in my opinion.  Not so much a rifle of target shooting lineage, but proven on the battle field and the Buffalo Stand.

C.Sharps Arms, M1885 HW, 22Hornet, Hornady Vmax 40gr, 13gr Lil-Gun 3021fps.  Barrel heats up much faster than with 11.5gr IMR4227, but it's more accurate.

Thanks for the info.  I have a lot of loads to start with.  I appreciate your sharing.  Especially the vitals such as the barrel heat issues.
