Here is my MVA highwall that was finished in October by my friend Curt Hardcastle.  Turned out really nice. Smiley

Nice?  Somebody has got to say it like it is.  The bluing is all blotchy looking and the paint on the stock is all streaky and such.  It didn't even cover all those flaws in the wood.  Maybe you'll have better luck next time.

Being the magnanimous sort that I am, I'll take it off your hands so you don't have to go through the embarrassment of being seen toting such a thing around on the range.

No need to thank me.  It's a service I provide for free.

Hayface

Mighty fine looking rifle!

That is a very nice looking rifle. The CC on the action is a little bit different than what is normally seen and I think it is quite attractive. The wood is magnificent. I would be tempted to offer it a place in my safe but I am aftaid that there would be a riot.  Something akin to sending one of Victoria's Secret models to and all boys school to attend classes.
That is just one fine looking rifle, hands down.

The wood came from a garage sale of a trapshooter.  Really lucky find for me.

Curt Hardcastle builds some really fine rifles.  I have a Sharps Borchardt that he built.

I really like that highwall.

Chris.

Plan for rifle is silhouette shooting.  Barrel is Green Mountain barrel chambered in 38-50 Remington Hepburn.

I'm gonna paint mine like the camo guns I see at the range. That'll make it blend in out there, and less ashamed of itself when it finds itself in the company of those like yours. Sharp looking rifle ya have there.

All right, since no one else will say it, I will. Need more pictures!

If the butt looks that good, what about the front?

Oops, meant buttstock and fore end.......

I do not have any more pictures of the finished rifle, however, I have some of the building process that detail the wood.  The are shown below.

Very nice. What Length, weight & twist barrel did you go with?

Which Rick do you have load data from?

When weather cooperates, we shoot the 2-day match (mid-range & silhouette) in GA at the end of Feb to start our season. Last Feb the mid-range (200/300/600yd) winner was a fellow shooting a 38-50. Shot a 94 at 600yd if memory serves. 290 for the winning agg.

No one shoots a 38-50 better than Rick. He has also been very helpful to me in sharing data on what works for him. Now if we can only shoot our 38-50s half as well as he does.

Beautiful rifle!  Curt can be counted upon to turn out that kind of beautiful work.  Did a small Martini .22 for me that is one of my favorites!
