New Belding & Mull charge tubes
Dec 2nd, 2016 at 5:57pm

My B&M measure came with a brass muzzle loading powder measure instead of the normal charge tube. So I ordered a new micrometer tube from B&M. I just received it today and it won't fit in my old measure. Their website doesn't mention the measurements being different from the old ones. Has anyone else had this issue?

Steve, if you dont get much of a reply on here let me know and I can make a trip over and get answers right from the source. They are less than 45 minutes from me. I do have an old measure and one or 2 drop tubes.  So at least I can measure them and have some numbers as a reference.

Thanks Sam, but I don't think they have any on hand. When I called to order the one I got, I was told the tubes are made off site by someone else. I got a call back from the guy that makes them after thanksgiving weekend and he took my order.

I can always give them a call back and see what the deal is. I just thought I would see if any of you have dealt with this before. I will probably just have my uncle take a little off the outside of the tube with his lathe.

To be very honest, that would probably be the easiest and least painful way to go.  I would still like to know what the outside diameter of your new charge tube in and I will compare that to my old ones and maybe there was a mistake somewhere along the line but I can easily stop in at the store and ask a few questions. They seem to be nice people that run the place, and you never know, it might be a problem with their sub contractor.

I just measured mine (an old one) and it's .495". Tried a .500 plug gauge in the measure and it's no-go.

Just measured 8 tubes at .495 - .501. 4 measures went .500 to .502 at the largest. None were new manufacture.

I went and measured my tube and it is a little worn and a little out of round but went .4995 to .500.
Kind of sounds like you got a tube on the max size and a hole on the minimum size.
Normally stock runs to size or a little under but depending on where they got the stock the manufacturer may not hold the tolerance all that close or maybe it was a little off and they got a really good price on it.
It will not take much for it to be chucked up and polished down a little to where it fits correctly.

FWIW I have 6' of 0.49x" diameter thick wall (1/16") brass tubing that I make my B&M measures from. Some day I should chop them up in usable lengths and sell them to you guys, maybe as a donation to ASSRA. I have a 8X lifetime supply already, haha!

What length would people need/want?

Tip - Used a large nut, bored out threads to slip fit the tube and drilled through as an adjustable stop (nut threaded, tube not) then using a solid delrin rod as the adjustable insert. Works slick!

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

I just bought one of the new B&M charge tubes also. Had the same problem when I got it. Chucked it up and polished it away with abrasive paper till it fit like it should. Not a big problem but yet one to be aware of.
