Gain-twist Barrels & Torque

Am wondering if anyone has noticed any difference in torque when shooting a gain-twist barrel as opposed to a straight-twist barrel in the same cartridge?

The faster the twist the more torque you will experience. Ron Smith recommended a left hand twist for a 10-twist 38-72. I had never considered a left hand twist until then. He was right. It twisted into my cheek and felt like I had better control on my release. FWIW................

Now that is interesting. My 10 twist barrels(35-40 and38/50) do torque quite a bit and make it harder at long range. I could see a left twist working better by your face giving more support.

Harry Pope made his Gain Twist Barrels with Left Hand twist for exactly that reason.
He states in a couple of Books and has said it in public according to a friend now passed that had spoken to him a few times when they were both alive. Just kinds of makes sense doesn't it. I believe that at least one or maybe more of the current barrel makers offer that as an option. HTH Regards, FITZ.

Have also noticed how much more torque there is with my faster-twist 38cal rifle then with the slower twist 40cal. Surprisingly so. Think the higher velocity of the smaller bullet may also have an impact on this.

Am wondering if a gain-twist with its slower starting value would help to reduce the torque?

Left twist torques into your face, but on the bench where minimual stock pressues are desireable, it torques out of your hand.

A long time ago, did an article on the effect of gain twist on round ball muzzle loaders (Muzzle Blasts. April 2001).
Found the peak torque to rotate the ball was less than 5 in.-lbs. for a .50 caliber but increased or decreased rapidly with caliber.
A proper gain twist could reduce the peak torque by about 50%, but lasts longer and higher torque at the muzzle.
Have not looked at cartridge rifles but the twist ratios suggested are about the same as RKS barrels.
Studying the effect of a gain twist can get into the weeds real quick.
