Breech Seating Tools

I have recently acquired an 1885 in 32-40.  After casting the chamber I have found the throat is tapered.  I have been breech seating CPA 44 1/2's for several years with a plugged case.   I am looking for sources for a breech seating tool.

Can anyone offer suggested sources for a 32-40 breech seating tool for the 1885 HW?

Thanks for your suggestions

Thanks all,

Weber seems to be the source.

Hi all,
I'm in Australia, so to save an international phone call, can someone tell me, roughly, what Russ charges. I have a Pedersoli Rolling block and a Pedersoli Hi wall.

Cheers D.R.

I called him two weeks ago.

Mr. Weber currently charges $200 USD and needs three cartridge cases that have been fired in your gun and NOT RESIZED.

Dusty
About 12 months ago I purchased a Weber breech seater from Russ. As I am in Canberra first I had to post over to the US a couple of fired cases, this cost about $25, the seater cost approximately US$ 210.  When it arrived, after quite a wait, it did not function properly and had to be returned for adjustment which entailed further postage costs and delays.
When it was returned it worked fine.
At the end of the day it now owes me slightly over 400 bucks !.
If you can find one in Australia to copy that may be a cheaper option, or just use a plugged case.
Mike.

Yeah thanks guys.

Mick B, the $ exchange  rate is certainly killing all those good deals we used to get.
As you say, even the postage hurts.

It was only an enquiry to settle my thoughts. I currently use a simple off set hand push type for my three breech seaters,  but something easier would be handy.

Cheers D.R.

Those readers of this forum who would like to learn how to wring the utmost accuracy out of their rifles would do well to pay attention to Schuetzendave’s loading methods. His ASSRA forum posts on rifle accuracy are an ongoing seminar on how to improve your loads, equipment and shooting technique. Dave must be a tireless experimenter and he obviously puts in the practice to keep his skills honed.
I only know Dave casually through our participation in the ISSA annual Schuezenfests but he is a serious competitor and should always be considered a contender at matches.
Read and heed Dave’s posts and you will come to learn the meaning of his tag line “Tune Your Rifle: Make Her Sing”.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Sadly, the work of art breech seaters made by Neal Rice are no longer available. One might be found on the used market, although I can't imagine someone willing to part with one. That being said, Mr. Weber makes a fine seater, and you can still acquire one. I had to post this as Neal was my best friend and I felt compelled to make sure that his efforts get notice. Thanks, and best regards Krag

Thanks Dave.  I have always wondered about my Pope barrel not taking a Weber style BS but shooting BS better than ML.  Wonder if it is .003 or .004 off?  Roll Eyes
