Chinquapin Schuetzenverein
Oktoberfest 2016
14 & 15 October

We ordered in perfect, crisp Fall weather for Central Virginia this weekend and it arrived just in time for our combined Oktoberfest event at Brushy Mountain Club with both a schuetzenfest and a skeet tournament.  The riflemen had their largest turnout in several years with all 8 benches staying full both days.  This gives your humble Schuetzenmeister the clout to campaign for a couple more benches for the coming year!

The Dell/Hudson and CF Offhand matches didn’t attract much effort with only two shooters trying the former and both dropping out due to sighting problems.  Craig Faubion stepped in and saved the day by shooting his Quarterbore Rifle Offhand so there was one CF OH to report.  For the first time we had an “official” class of 3 shooters in Quarterbore Bench.  As usual, the rimfire shooters dominated the competitions with 7 shooters in Benchrest, two in Offhand and even one intrepid soul shooting the Zettler Hudson!  See results below.

Quarterbore Offhand   Craig Faubion            188 – 1C

Quarterbore Bench      Ray Hoagland            245 - 5C
                       Jim Wheeler            229 – 1C
                       Craig Faubion            205 – 0C

Centerfire Bench      Ray Hoagland            246 – 7C
                       Jim Rowe                  242 – 3C
                       Stuart Mahler            239 – 1C
                       Jim Wertz                  238 – 3C
                       Tommy Howard            227 – 1C
                       Jim Rowe (Irons)      227 – 1C
                       Ted Greer                  209 – 0C

Zettler/Hudson            Dick Wehner             1986 – 4C

Rimfire Offhand            Dick Wehner            214 - 2C
                       Craig Faubion            194 – 0C

Rimfire Bench            Tommy Howard            246 – 6C
                       Jim Rowe                  243 – 8C
                       Gerry Cook            242 – 4C
                       Mark Cook                  242 – 3C
                       Jim Wheeler            241 – 4C
                       Jim Wertz                  241 – 3C
                       Stuart Mahler            241 - 2C

Our next match is tentatively scheduled for 23 & 24 June of 2017.  As usual, you must be present to attend!

Correction/Addition

OK guys, now that the dust from the matches has settled there are two additions/corrections to the scores.  First, Ray Hoagland's rimfire bench score was omitted, a serious breach since his score of 246-6C tied Tommy Howard's first place, and since both targets went home with their owners (after scores were recorded) I have no way of comparing for closest to center, etc and will declare the two a tie.

Tommy will be somewhat mollified to hear that his best centerfire bench was recorded incorrectly and should be raised from 227-1 to 237-1C.

Mea culpa guys, I can only plead exhaustion while trying to get scores posted quickly.

How's this for a deal, ledball... if you come shoot with us here at Chinquapin I'll return a pound of that old 4759 you "pawned off" on me when you didn't know how good it really was.  That ought to give you a little incentive!  We've missed you here in Central VA since that big storm blew you back to Ohio 5 years ago.

Best regards,
Froggie

I remember the big blow, when I got home my new 800 dollar storm was wadded-up like a piece of tinfoil.  Ledball

ledball, I can't guarantee the weather of course, but if it will set your mind at ease, we'll do a rain dance backwards the weekend before the June event.  Roll Eyes
