Just let Dave at CH4D know that I'll wait until the rifle is back in my hands to slug the barrel before deciding on the die, expander ball and neck sizing bushing. Time to 'sit tight' and let the gunsmith (Steve Rhoades) work his magic.

Thanks.

Here are a couple of 'first cut' designs for bullets to use in my 0.348" x 0.356" barrel. Longer bullet weight is 342gr & shorter is 316gr. Please feel to comment.

Added the 1.43" long bullet with an elliptical nose. Resized the shorter bullet so all are to the same scale, but the forum software is making them all appear to be the same.

Have you considered using an Elliptical Nose?

Posted the elliptical above with the other two. Only weighs in at 326gr at the same length as the secant ogive bullet weighs 342gr.

I do understand the weight issue re. knocking down rams, etc.
But, I wonder. The elliptical nose will retain more velocity to the ram line.....
Like I used to do in handgun silhouette, - do some
Retained Momentum calculations for the rams

Will likely make both designs (342gr & 326gr) to test. Won't have results until the spring.

I thought shooting hard and fast would be ideal for the 35-40.
Thus far one of my best loads at 370 yards has been a D Theodore grooveless bullet 360 grains at 1.475" cast in 25 or 30/1 and shot slow at 1180 fps. Controlling torque from the 10 twist bbl has been key for me shrinking groups.

Interesting that you mention torque. With my 38-56 HiWall with a 14" twist I found that torque was a problem with a 360gr bullet. Problem with the 38-56 is that it is a BN case and can't be "loaded down" when shooting BP.

Thanks Hiwall for the mould. Have not shot it as Dan intended but with four very shallow lube grooves rolled in with my CH canneular tool and regular bullet lube. No leading so far.

I knurled my 38 groove less and it holds more lube than grooves do

Hiwall55, that Sagebrush bullet is promoted as having a BC of .5426. Im sure I never took advantge of that at the speed I shoot.
Glenn, Look over the small dia NASA bullet I sent you. May cast up a few this winter for paper patch test. You should get them by sat.

I have a .35 cal. 14 twist Buhmiller barrel blank and just today I was wondering if I could put it on a Rolling Block chambered in 35-30 using 30-30 brass.  Would this make any sense or would I be better off using the 35-40 design? It would be used with smokeless powder.  So far I'm just in the "pondering" stage.

Get ahold of JES re boring , that's one of his options. He would tell you if people do use it and would have some information.
