How does Accurate-2495 compare to other smokeless powders in these cartridges?  If not so good...what smokeless powder have you found to be most accurate for fixed loads?

I shoot 2495 in a 45/70 Lever action, my friends call them Brutal but very accurate.Black Powder is my preferred choice in Single shots. But my friends use 5744 in their 40/65 and 45/70's

I shoot Blackhorn 209 in my 45-70 and 40-65 with excellent results. I don't understand why more shooters don't use it.

I have used the earlier (mid 1990') Accurate XMP 2495 powder in an Axtell .40-70 Sharps.  Found best accuracy a few grains under start loads (Lyman) using cast bullets from 300 to 350grs.  Excellent 100yd. accuracy..around 1".  However...this powder works fine in summer temps.  In fall when morning temps are around 40 deg. or lower...I experienced click-bangs.  I was using Fed. 210 primers..switched to Winchester std. WLR and problem was diminished but not completely eliminated.  Tried Kapok filler & though it worked to eliminate hang-fires I don't really like or feel comfortable using fillers.  I am at the point of switching over to Holy black.

Try to find some Fed 215 Magnum LR primers.
they solved my cold weather hangfires with
4831 and MR3100 in my 375 HH Imp rifle.

I use SR4759 in my rifles in that caliber. If I did not have a lot of SR4759 I would use 5744 or 4227.

I had a problem with  Accurate 2495 in a 7.65 Mauser and when my last pound is gone I will never use it again in anything.
One thing I noticed over the years with Accurate powders was one time it would come from Australia, the next time it was from the Czech Republic the next time it was from China.  The Accurate cost advantage has pretty much disappeared so there is no point in using any of it except the 5744 which has properties ideal for reduced loads.

Thanks for all of the replies.  I have two pounds of Accurate XMR 2495 with a McEwen, Tennessee address label and no country of origin.  It has been around for a good many years and I have never used it...so before I tried some loads I wanted to know other shooters experiences with it.  The label lists a load of 50.0 gr. max for a 420 gr. lead bullet and shows a velocity of 1656 f/s.

My 2495 is probably close to 20 years old and has the McEwen Tn address.

But in the purple part of the label on the back it says made in China.
It has some sort of ignition issue or position sensitivty.
I had no data for a 7.65 Mauser so I started out very conservative.
Later after data was published my starting load was about 2 grains less than Accurates starting data.

The starting load was fired in 2 identical rifles and blew 2 primers in 1 of them.
Finding that the firing pin fall was sluggish I remove a lot of cosmoline from the mainspring. I tried the bolt from the other rifle and it fired normally.
I put the original cosmoline bolt back in the rifle with the blown primers and it then functioned normally.  I shot loads in both rifles that were 3 grains higher without further incident.
Based on this incident I don't want any more 2495, Not only that but it no longer has any real price advantage and 4895 never misbehaves like this powder. It also smells like phenol which I really dislike,
