The .395" bullet with the paper you mentioned my be the go, where did you get the paper from ?.
The main advantages I saw in going to paper patching were no leading, better aerodynamics and the possibility of swaging them instead of casting. On the subject of swaging I visited the Corbin website and found out that the start up cost would probably be in the vicinity of a grand, that sorta killed that idea.
Mike.
PS If you see Charles Toohey in your travels pass on my regards.

Good afternoon,

Anyone have any experience with the dual diameter paper patch bullets in a modern .38 cal. rifle  .375 groove and .368" bore?  I've read and re-read the post and find the dual diameter idea  intriguing. I have a CPA 38-55 (.3759" groove) with a 1-14 twist Douglas and a modern 1885 action (Browning) with McGowen 1-16" twist barrel.  I've got the idea of measuring the total paper thickness and subtracting that to get the base and nose diameters but was hoping someone has hands on... "I've done that" experience.

I've only shot a hundred or so paper patch  bullets, some with black and some smokeless, and I can't say that I've got the hang of it...

Thanks,
Richard

mick,
try art supply warehouse for 8 lb seth cole 55w.
a 395 bullet should work well with this paper in a 0.400 bore.
it would still be worth trying the 9 lb with the weber as well. offering a versatile choice.
i see chazza a bit, so will pass along  your regards.
he is in the process of making me an experimental device to fit oversized felt wads into a case in a cup shaped manner as an experiment in shooting dirty.
I owe Charles a lot for all the help and advice he has given me over the years.
keep safe,
bruce.

Percival,
while I have no experience with the 38/55, I know that if you get the bullet length right for the twist, and the diameters right, it will work with the right compression of black powder.
seating most of the bullet out in the rifling will give that little case more capacity.
get a mould to suit the slower of your twists, and try it in both rifles.
keep safe,
bruce.

Percival,
set the bullet up to seat 1/8" in the case.
make the length of it for the slower twist, and it will also work in the faster one.
a stability factor of 1.8 is way better than 1.5.
freebore if any should be taken into account.
cpa might advise on their rifle with regards this.
keep safe,
bruce.
