Just sent Jason Cloessner an e-mail expressing my interest in either a .22LR No.1 in a varmint configuration or a completed action. Perhaps if others will do the same he will pursue.

Squeaky wheels get grease  Smiley

Heard back from Jason that it was "interesting" and he "would see". If you want one let Jason know. If there are enough of us squeaking then maybe we'll get some grease in the form of a .22LR No.1 Varmint.

Pretty single shot? - Ruger #1

Pretty single shot w/ HORRIBLE barrels? - Ruger #1 (Maybe new ones are better ...

Pretty single shot w/ gawd awful barrel twists, even if a decent barrel? - Ruger #1
Who the heck puts a 14"'twist in a 223?

Pretty single shot w/ WAY TOO LONG throats? - Ruger #1

Pretty single shot w/ finiky forearm hanger and harmonics? - Ruger #1

Oh, did I say they were pretty? Now NEVER has lost $$ on one, but sure wish I had those hours of my life back!

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

A reduced scale #3 action could be interesting, sized for the medium and smaller capacity cartridges.

It's nice to dream!  Oh, how I'd love a smaller scale No.1 or No.3 action - perhaps with enough clean tang in the right place for a tang sight!

Alas, Ruger seems to have lost interest in the No.1, I'm afraid the No. 2 is a pipe dream.

I still think a Ruger #1 with a 30" full or half octagon barrel in .32-40 or .38-55 would be a big seller. No need to cater to just the schuetzen shooters by putting a Swiss buttplate on it. Just keep the standard buttpad.
Considering how popular the .38-55 still is, if they only did that caliber in the barrel configuration, they'd still sell well! A relocation of the safety would also be nice. Or at least a safety switch that was offset to one side, so a base could straddle it and a sight mounted on that base.

Forwarded this thread to Jason Cloessner at Lipsey's. Maybe he'll follow along and see what folks are most interested in and help us out. Sure do like my No.1 varmint in .223. Am sure I will like it even more in a couple of weeks after Steve Durren finishes working his magic on the trigger.

Just found out today the Lipsey's is no longer handling the No. 1. Who knows what's in store for the 50th Anniversary of the No. 1?

All sources seem to suggest that it will continue somehow, but no one can say exactly how, in what numbers or what configurations.
Perhaps they'll keep it on life support for the 50th anniversary year, then pull the plug like they have on so many other models over the years.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Recently I heard that they are discontinuing production of the #1 completely,  probably just not making enough money for the effort. Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

Yep. The 'new' Ruger (company) is all about the money (just like the 'new' NRA). Continuing to produce a rifle that sells a few hundred a year when they are selling a million of their other guns is likely something of no interest to the 'new' Ruger. Am guessing Bill is flipping over in his grave.
