It is a Zettler Brothers rifle made in NYC.
Cheers,
Laurie

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Wonder where that 2011 auction got their provenance? Since the bore is described as "original Winchester", and Zettler Bros. were known for re-rifling bores with the "Zettler method".
I also own a Zettler schuetzen rifle built on a Ballard #6 with a Winchester barrel in .22 short, and re-rifled by Zettler Bros. Mine also has a Stevens scope mounted in HM Pope rings and bases.
Neat little gun, and quite possibly a Zettler, but before I paid extra, I'd need to know for sure the provenance can be supported.

No, mine is not marked. I've seen a couple others with Zettler rifling, and neither were marked. The rifling will indicate that the Zettler bros. had their hands on at least the barrel. Unsure how a complete gun can be documented, but sure hope somebody knows!
HALP shows a rollstamp used on his site, but haven't seen one myself:

Seems to be more of them in the NE United States; which makes sense with their NY City location. Mine came from Maine or Vermont, from what the seller knew.

Thought I remembered seeing a marked one Gary Quinlan brought to a show, but that was 30 yrs ago, and I can't be sure; but if the rifling is recognizable, that would answer the question.

Marked or not I would be 100% confident that is a Zettler from other examples on the net. Cheers to Laurie for recognizing it right away !

I too would agree it's Zettler style. Just don't know how to confirm that without some marking, or Zettler style rifling. Regardless, it's a great gun, and one well worth owning!
