Did it again, huh? Well, good fer you up there in the Ballard Capitol of the world. I don't see as many Ballards in a decade where I'm at as you have acquired in the past few months. Keep 'em coming- always nice to see what you've picked up, wether that brand or others. (Yeah, I still like that Hepburn). Wink

Thanks! Helps to search a wide area, and have friends who point them your way also!

Yeah, we can always use as many friends as we can get, even if they don't find Ballards for us, huh?

Yes! Guns can always be found or replaced; but friends are tougher to find or replace!

Hey Vall, I know I already said congratulations but thought I'd add,  I'm pretty sure the extractor on my 40-85 is also stamped 40-63.   I'll have to have another look when I return.    Will let you know.    Be interesting to hear if anyone with a 40-85 has one stamped as such!

Best Regards,
John

Thanks John! Makes sense that they would simply use one stamping on the extractors. Surprised they didn't just mark them ".40" instead of caliber specific.

My MFA Pacific in .40-85 also has a .40-63 extractor, Vall. I was thinking that it was a repair but maybe they came that way? Wayne Wink

I had another Ballard .40-85 owner tell me his extractor was marked ".40-63" also, so it seems to be the norm for Marlin.

Hey, Vall, since this thread is just shy of two years old and the original pictures have disappeared, how about reminding us what the Grungy Ballard looks like now,

Sure Bill. Thanks to Photosucket all my old pictures disappeared. I'll post the before and after again.

Here's one after I cleaned the caliber marking off to read the rollstamp:
