Highwall single set trigger help

I have a single set trigger assembly. Will it fit a standard trigger tang? Also I have a musket coil spring hammer. Will it work with the set trigger? Does the fly in it need changed? Thanks, moodyholler

The single set trigger assembly works in a standard single trigger lower tang. The parts required for the change are, trigger, catch, coil spring for the catch, adjustment screw, knockoff spring. The rest of the parts should already be in the gun.
The hammer does have to have a fly. Either fly that Winchester made, if properly adjusted, will work.

You should also have the correct sear that is needed for a hammer with a fly.  It has a groove cut in it that the fly rides in.

It would seem to make sense for Winchester to have cut that groove in all of them.  I have had two that do not have it.  Most eBay sears that I see do not have them either.  I cut a groove in one with a Dremel cutting disk.  Luckily no one can see the end result. Grin

Jack, it makes sense to us- a hundred years later. But, with the percentage of rifles sent out with a set trigger, they probably did "batches" of 'em and used them as needed. When the bin with uncut ones got empty they used the grooved ones until both bins got replenished. This explains the ones in rifles with plain triggers. Just a guess, of course.
Personally, I wish they all had that groove and a fly in the hammer.

I with you.  I lucked out and bought a low Wall with a standard trigger BUT a fly in the hammer.  No groove in the sear and you could see the drag marks, Luckily the fly was not too worn.  $100 worth of parts from MVA and I have a single set.  (and an ugly but functional sear groove)
