Back to the subject: weren't we talking about how to get powder from a dipper into the case when funnels- then missing funnels came along?
Anybody know how to get the nitro into the airplane using an old reloader funnel? What drift?

Neat video Joe. Reminds me of all the times I nearly got decapitated when radio control first got popular. Nobody knew where the safe zones were like tethered flight had.
Nobody knew how to fly radio either , so there was no safe place. Shocked

M/L Rifle you grab the muzzle tight thumb up. Hand higher than the barrel. Hand becomes the funnel dump the powder no spills,no fuss .

Davy Crockett did not carry  a funnel, if not for the Alamo no doubt he would have switched to cartridge rifles and used the method with the case.

I must agree there Boats. Completely logical way to load.

As to powder measures- Like the early Ideal, Wilkerson, etc.- when did they come into common use? Was it after smokeless or duplex loadings? The early bulk stuff wouldn't need one, but when they began diddling with the new ones more precise weights would have been useful, even necessary?

Joe, I don't think Davy carried a funnel. He probably left it at home with his model airplane stuff. Cool

Earlier, Grisen mentioned Lesmok powder. I don't think it was ever a can powder like the other semi-smokeless offerings. If I'm not mistaken, it was used for .22 shells only. Somebody correct me if I'm all wet here. Include a pic of a can if one exists.

Here is interesting thread started by John Kort re 44-40 commercial loads with Lesmok. It was not limited to .22RF.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Reading that thread, I must have confused Lesmok with Kings Semi-Smokeless.

Found this History of Winchester Firearms.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);

In 1910 section is following:
1911. Winchester starts loading Lesmok powder in centerfire cartridges.

Not found anything about Lesmok in canisters for reloading.

There may be something in various books re "history of firearms development" for sale in Amazon, etc.

SO, calledflyer, you may only be 1/2 wet.

Grisen

Well guy's I think you have hit the nail right on the head. When one of us passes and has our outfits spread all over where we keep the "Not So Important Stuff" then our family who may have only a smattering of what its all about just piles the "Useless" stuff up separate. That's why Sights and other accessories get lost. Of my outfits I make sure False Muzzles
and sights and any other component are tagged and Identified.
I have been to Auctions and found stuff that was obviously part of an outfit and the Rifle was up for Auction separate from the stuff that should have been with it. I am sure lots of funnels have become kitchen utensils. Well all for now. Regards, FITZ. Smiley

I have an old brass or copper funnel with a small wire handle I found at a gun show. I'm certain it was designed for just what you're doing; dumping a charge into cases. It appears homemade, as I can see the solder joint where the sheet material meet, and the soldered handle. I've used it before, and it works great with the handle to hold it in the case mouth.

I found this by searching the Internet.  Obviously, it is a new product, Cash Manufacturing Co. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); I wonder if there was one like this... back when?

Or, you could get one at Walmart or Bed Bath & Beyond. Aluminum and priced way lower. Not as pretty, but just as functional.

I also have a lathe turned brass funnel of unknown age? It has a small wooden handle attached to the edge. Looks a lot like the one Aaron showed.
