This is a recently acquired Frank Wesson falling block? (actually it is a raising block) center fire rifle. Barrel is 26" (believed shortened) and the caliber is possibly 35-40 Maynard. Single set trigger, tang sight, figured wood, mirror bore. 2 dovetails cut on the top barrel flat for scope mounting? Last patent is 1862. I cannot find this model on the internet, Flayderman's, or Standard Catalog. Any help of what it is appreciated! There are no proofs or markings on the gun or under the forearm except the one shown. Certainly a Frank Wesson barrel fitted on to some unknown action is a real possibility. The fore end however is beautifully and tightly shaped and inletted to match the barrel like a glove with no sign of rework and that includes the pewter fore end tip too and also how the fore end dovetails into the receiver itself. There is witness mark on the barrel bottom, none on the receiver though? Thanks, Chris
