Lubrication for Belding & Mull powder measures

I continue to have galling on the aluminum shuttle on my B & M powder measure despite polishing the shuttle and cast iron body. I haven't found any info on this problem and I'm wondering if there is a solution that I haven't found.  I've used dry moly lube as well as several hydrocarbon lubes.  It's irritating and it certainly breaks my concentration during a reloading session. HELP!

I posted this question on Cast Boolits as well.  I just tried the measure without the spring, using only a regular cadence with my hand to open and close the hopper.  Worked great-held to 0.01 grains on my beam scale with Bullseye.  Now I need a spring just strong enough to close the hopper.

I have found that mold prep spray works great to lube the measure. Plus the sponge based sanding blocks from Harbor Freight are a perfect fit to clean the cavity.  I tossed the handle and spring long ago and just shuttle the hopper back and forth with my fingers.  I use a rubber and to make sure it stays to the left.  Just found a local source for springs that may be week enough to replace the rubber band though.

I used one for several years problem free. There is enough Graphite in the smokless powder to keep it self lubed. Once someone introduces lube it can become an attractant and that could possibly be the cause of the problem. Once foreign material dust etc. becomes embedded in the softer material it might be a challenge to return it to the same state it came from the manufacture. If one trys to clean up the mating surfaces it might increase the once close tolerance and then making the problem even worse. By doing so it could provide enough space for those foreign materials to find their way in there more easily. I simply keep mine clean with no attempts ever made to try and lube it.

If these are that much trouble, are they really any better than a Redding?

Sounds like a weaker spring and dry graphite lube will be my best starting place.  I've just finished 430 38 Special loads without the spring and relatively clean of lube.  No problems. And considering the same repetitive hand operation without a helper spring to operate the drum or shuttle works well on other measures, the same should apply to the B & M measure.

Put a spring from Hillman / ace hardware in mine. #143  which is .035 wire about half as strong as original and plenty strong.

I use mine almost exclusively for BP and with the mold Drop only needs cleaning less than once a year.  The mold dropout I use (Frankford Arsenal) says it is micron-sized graphite.  Definitely not sticky once dry.

Squirt of powdered Graphite.  Once you get it going dust from the powder keeps it sliding smooth. Issue is most seen after storage dry.  Graphite mold prep is a good tip will give it a try.

B&M is really no more trouble than other measures, just different.  Lyman 55 has the same issue if run without graphite .

Amen, Boats. I use a pair of elderly Lyman 55s, and with a little graphite every five or ten years, they work real well with fine powders, and some stick as well. If it doesn't hiccup, I never, never use the knocker. Easily inside a tenth of a grain with most loads and powders.
I have never owned a B&M (used a friend's a little and didn't like it due to unfamiliarity)
I used aerosol dry lube for saws a lot- wonder if it's the same as the dry lubes others have been using? Good stuff.

I use a 55 for BP.  Never had any problems that couldn't be solves by cleaning the rotor once in a while.

I have never heard of brass galling the way aluminum does.
