Vall,

Very nice job in reshaping and finishing the stock set.  Like your original assessment, I thought that it would be difficult or impossible to reshape that odd V in the PG into a pleasing shape, but I underestimated your abundant skills! I should have known better. You did a fantastic job matching the old finish.

Look what showed up safe and gorgeous today!

As usual, Al Springer hit it out of the ballpark again! Can't wait to reassemble the breech block parts and see the finished gun looking better than before! The fillers in the barrel are impossible to see if you didn't know where they were!

Had to clamp it up in my barrel vise and spin the action on! Just slipped the wood, and metal together for a picture, so I could see what it looked like almost finished!

Still have to assemble the breech block halves, and internals. But at least I have a good idea of how it will look and feel!

Vall, that looks fabulous.   You are even getting better at pictures Smiley

I need to call and talk again about my stocks.   Nearly got talked out of doing anything to them but the bedding up in Tonasket.

Best Regards,
John

Anytime John! Sure wish you could have spent more time at the shoot in Tonasket! As you know, we had a great time, but missed you not being there the whole week!

No, never fired it. And it might have looked good in pictures, but in person the extra dovetails, scope base holes, and other funky stuff put a stink on it I didn't care for. Hard to tell, but if you saw it in person you'd probably have spent the time and small amount of money to make it better too!

Got the set triggers and breech blocks assembled tonight after dinner! Wife even let me use the dining room table! She can sense when I get really happy with a new toy!

Very nice work Val !  It was good to see the "before and after" pictures as you refinished the metal and reshaped the wood.

Thank you for sharing ...

Vall,
Really looks good. You saved another one.
Difference is amazing compared to what I saw at the gun show.

Thanks! Yes, I'm pretty sure it was passed up by so many people simply because of the poor refinish on it! The rounded edges on the octagon barrel; poorly shaped wood, and all the extra holes and dovetails in the barrel! But it still had that great Schoyen bore, and was mechanically sound. Just needed to get the stink off of it!
