The German's patent the FMJ spitzer in the USA.

It is not real clear if the James W Carver bullet 1900 or pre? pre-dates the W H French? but Carver's was noted to have been the more accurate of the two pointed designs in 32-40 and 38-55 for target work and was paper patched.

Frank, if I had ever seen that reference to casting the original Ideal bullet 15 to 1, I had ignored or forgotten it.  I have always used 25 to 1 as my go-to alloy for that and all old style cast schuetzen bullets for the 32s.   Smiley

As for his Biography, I'm going to have to guess that he moved to Colorado about the turn of the last century and only stayed there about 6-8 years at most before coming "back East."  That is, IF there was only one W. French through all of this shooting and experimenting we're reading about now.  If there was an "Eastern French" and a "Western French" it seems odd that their times of active shooting don't overlap.  Undecided

I'm thinking now I need to get out my Peregrine bench gun and give it some range time with a batch of 15 to 1 French bullets from my old mould just to see what happens.  Great, one more thing on the "to-do" list!  Roll Eyes
