BACO make a mould #409420M4, it's a money bullet style that is tapered, in my 40-60 Maynard this bullet will shoot consistent sub 1" groups using black powder with fixed ammunition.  Cast in 20-1 mine weigh in at 415 gr, I have other .40 cal moulds but this one has so far proven to shoot best in my CPA. My rifle has a Kreiger 1-16 twist barrel ( 1-16 I think ) My load is 57 gr of PP Wano, Fed 115 LM Pistol primer seated through computer paper, .060 veg wad over powder and a paper wad on top of the veg wad, OAL of the cartridge is 3.250", bullet just short of the lands.
Mike.

ssshooter,
is the bullet on the right the 450m3 or another bullet.?
if it is the m3, could you tell me the length of the full sized bands from back of the base to front of the front one?
what is the diameter of the reduced band?
keep safe,
bruce.

I ordered the BACO 395gr creedmoor C5 as it was in stock and will get me shooting soon, and will have Dave Farmer make a Ron Long style mold.

Now a few more questions.
What would be the min. velocity to keep the bullet above the speed of sound at 200 yds.?

Can the 40-60 be loaded the same way I would load 32-40 or 32 RKS , cork wad .125 off the powder with a std. large rifle primer?

I have AA #9 , Enforcer , and 4759 on hand any suggested starting loads ?

Bruce - the bullet on the right is the BACo 409420M4 "custom base band" that I had them add as much as possible to the width of the base band for additional weight. The first try was too long and the hot lead burned through the mold at the tip of nose. This bullet mold is just a bit shorter and works great. The 409420M4 casts at 413gr and is 1.445" long for me. The "custom base band" casts at 439gr in 20-1 and is 1.512" in length and shoots better for me than does the 413gr bullet at longer distances. Subtracting the two means that there is 0.067" additional width on the base band for an additional 26gr of weight. All dimensions above that are as listed on the BACo website for their 409420M4 bullet mold. I shoot the 439gr bullets at rams and 600yd. Will be using it to shoot the Creedmoor match at Raton next month, as well. Will also be shooting it at turkeys as soon as I use up my supply of 413gr bullets. Fewer bullets makes loading/casting simpler (the 'kiss' principle).

BTW - did try the 409450M3 mold a couple of years ago and could not get it to shoot in my rifle.
