25 20 WCF barrel length? (Read 3387 times)

	I have a low wall ceterfire. Thinking about 25-20 ss. What would be a good length barrel for bench shooting? Also thinking about a 3 weight barrel. Thanks. Plumloco

	My 25-20 WCF barrel (Douglas XX 10 twist) is 28" long and a number 4 weight. The rifle (CPA action) with a Lyman STS tips the scales a little over 14 pounds. It works good off the bench and I use it in offhand matches also. JerryH

	The most consistently accurate .22 varmint rifle I have has a barrel that is barely legal, (16 1/4"). And I see modern benchresters using heavy but short barrels. I believe that the idea is to minimize the magnitude of deviation at the muzzle due to vibration. That said, a traditional single shot with such a short barrel looks awfully weird, and IMHO ought to be banned for lack of artistic merit alone.

	My original low wall with the 25-20 single shot is a #1 barrel @ 28" in length. Just giving the barrel length as you wanted to use a heavier barrel. Frank

	30" heavy barrel, same contour as my 32 Ideal and 38-55. Bench and OH.

	I have a roller in .40-65 with a #5 26" bbl. shooting a 400 gr. Money bullet.

	Never mind the mule. Just load the wagon.
