High Wall 30-30 hunter

I have finally made some progress on a Winchester that has been sitting in the back of the safe. It is barreled in a #3 round contour and chambered in 30-30 Ackley Improved. I purchased the blank from Kenn Womack at (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links), and have it fitted, finished and checkered. There is still a lot of polishing to do on the action and barrel before color case and bluing. As well as a quarter rib for a scope. Still a long way to go but at least all the pieces are together.

Ballards may be weaker,

Nice rifle!  The forearm and buttstock have nice mineral lines running through them.  The checkering pattern is also very nice.  It looks like an English-style Winchester Express Rifle.

SSS,  If you ever need to make room in your gun safe, I'll be first in line to buy this rifle from you.  Great looking rifle and a very useful caliber.  Please keep my email and hopefully you'll say yes one day.  Ken_Tebbe@baylor.edu

As Kenny said, beautiful work and an excellent cartridge/rifle for those Gila Natl Forest and west TX deer.
What barrel length and twist did you go with?

Glenn - 2x CPA 44 1/2 w/22LR (Shilen ratchet-rifled & Bartlein 5R rifled), 38-40RH & 38-55WCF (Bartlein 5R rifled) & 40-65WCF (GrnMtn 'X') barrels

Hello Ken,

When it is time to move the 1885 I will call you first. Hope all is well with you.

Hello SSShooter,

The barrel is 26" with a 1-10 twist. Once I return from the Quigley Match later this month I will be fire forming some cases and trying the Lyman 311299 that my 30-40 Krags like so well.

Just checking in...is it "time" yet?  I'm still interested.   Smiley
