John Boy,

Its always nice to be able to Chrono and at the same time
shoot groups "to match" the velocity data.
It will be interesting to learn if this devise hanging on the barrel will affect the accuracy or point of impact. I have seen some comments to that .

I've been using one of these on my .45-70 rolling block for BP loads for a few months now.  Overall I'm very happy with it.  A few hints though. 1) it gets covered in bullet lube. Not a big deal, but plan on cleaning off after an hour or so of shooting.  Bring rags to the range.  2) the velocity readings are consistent with my old tripod chromo, but the SDs tend to be a lot lower, probably because it's much closer to the muzzle. on my tripod chromo if I got readings in the high single digits I was happy.  With the Magnetospeed, the equivalent is SDs of 2 or 3.  With the same load. 3) it causes the bullets impact to vary, but in a consistent and predictable way.  That is, the group size is the same, but on my gun it's 2-3" higher  than without the unit. And finally 4) It makes my old, single-shot gun with the 2-foot scope look even weirder.  Nobody has actually asked me if it was a bayonet, but you can tell, some them are thinking it.

Overall - I'm very happy with the purchase.  My tripod chromo was too cheap and was always frustrating me. The Magnetospeed is great!

Arnie:  my procedure is:
* Chronograph readings for work up powder charges, then
* Shoot the work ups for group
So the chrono hanging on the end of the barrel is not a concern.

Nick does the thing ever get knocked loose from recoil?  Does it interfere with the front sight?

Thanks,

Chris.

I have had trouble getting one to "see" small bullets moving fairly slowly. Otherwise, it is infinitely more pleasant to use at a public range where setup time in front of the firing line during ceasefires is limited.

I've never tried to shoot a group with it on.

They work nice as long as you don't mind the change in aim point.

It does sometimes get knocked loose by the recoil.  After some experimentation, I now cinch it down pretty tight and use all of the slack in the screw tightener. That works.

Front sight - I put the scope on when I'm testing loads, so haven't tried it with the globe. I'll put it on at home and see if it interferes.
