.40 Caliber Pedersoli Gibbs

Just purchased a Pedersoli Gibbs rifle in .40 caliber. This one has the slower 1-24 twist, not the 1-16 twist. Looking for load, bullet and general information on this rifle in .40 caliber, as it seems hard to find online. I realize that the faster twist would have been a better choice for 1000 yd shooting, but I will be limited to 600 max. Most of my shooting will be at 100-300 yds. Would appreciate any info and help you can offer.

Original Ballard Mid-Range .40's either the .40-70 or .40-63 Everlasting, used a 1-20" twist.   Original factory loads used a 330gr. paper-patched bullet.  300 to 330grs. might be a good place to start.

Kim Kelly was telling me about a shooter by the name of Austin (Dave?) who lives in the Miami, FL area who shot well with a 40cal ML (think he said a Gibbs) a few years back. He said Austin was quite competitive with it and is still an active poster on one of the BP ML forums. Perhaps you can find him and get some load info.

I've been following the Pedersoli line for over 20 years and have never seen a catalogued Gibbs in anything but a 1:16" twist????

My friend who shoots a 40cal Gibbs found accuracy improved after we made a new oversized base plug for the bullet mold that thinned the skirt a little.

These cast at 312.2gns

Hold still varmint; while I plugs yer!
