IMHO: Hand deprimer tool

Now that I approach retirement from Honeywell, and having just acquired my #10 Ballard, I am preparing to start shooting it. Depriming and priming tools have been on my mind. I didn't want to spend $150 for a Pope style and just didn't want to make my own. The Lee hand primer is about as good as I have found at its modest cost (used one for years shooting 1000 yard bench and F-class) for priming; but what to decap with???? That was the question. Well I found what I think is as good as it gets and for under $50. The Frankford Arsenal Hand Deprimer works great. OMG for under a $hundo you can have decaping and with the Lee priming tools that will work for any caliber you can think of.
Wish I had invented the FA tool. It looks odd but works so good. Made of metal and very solid.
Anyway my search is done for these tools as far as I am concerned.

Here is my crude but effective tool.  There was one like it in the Dixie Gun Works BPC shooting video.  I froze the frames and made a wooden prototype to test the geometry and eventually made one for 45 cal out of the parts shown.  I have several in different calibers.  The handles have gotten a bit more stylish, but the overall concept is the same.  Just get the right size Lee trimmer pilot.

BACO has a de priming tool called a D.A.T de priming tool , I'm not sure if they still sell it but mine has been terrific and does not require different shell holders for each calibre. It will de prime and shell that will drop in it.  It uses the Lee de capper to work it, mine has bee faultless for the five years that I have had it, I don't think there is anything in it that would break. The old BACO catalogue that I have (#27 ) lists it at $39.50.

I have always wondered who made the one in the Dixie video.  The guy was talking along while decapping his brass and never mentioned the tool.  One of the Tacoma shooters took some measurements from mine and came back with one that looked like it was made in the finest machine shop.  All done with files and a drill press.  I like yours Chuckster, looks very professional!

Jack,
Thank you, but the next one will use the Lee de-capper head shown in your picture. Great idea, Thanks

Banded in Modesto is just another one of Franks untruthful statements and there is no truth to it at all. The way he operated it with disregard and disrespect to the shooters sitting next to him was uncalled for and a very irritating distraction to their concentration and it could have been operated in a more gentle and user friendly manor.
Frank you can continue to rag on me all you want but leave the rest of our group out of it they are Modesto and one would be hard pressed to find a more user friendly and respectful group of competitors and they do not deserve your untruthful and demeaning remark.

LRF, I know you said you didn't care to make one but some of us can't help it, we can buy one for $50 or for $10 and a few hours of precious time we make things like this.  Here's one I made that is .45 caliber specific, does 45-60 to 45-120.  Helps having a full machine shop that's a part of your life.  Smiley
