bullet diameter and groove diameter.

Using a bullet with BHN 22 and a gas check. Should the size be .001, .002, or .003. Over grove diameter? Gun is a Uberti 45/70. Have tried slugging barrel. Number is about .457. Not sure how accurate that measurement is. Using a bullet with BHN15 and a set if digital calipers.

Use a soft round ball larger than groove diameter. Push it into the rifling just ahead of the chamber. Pop it back out with a rod and measure. Don't use plastic calipers. Make sure your calipers are accurate. Don't poke yourself in the eye with the rod. All that other stuff. You know what to do.
