Winchester Low Wall 32/20 Dilemma

Hello ,
i bought a very good cond low wall 32/20 overall i would say very good, and shootable bore ,some pitting in bore but more good than bad, 27 inch octagon ,i wanted it more as a fun gun ,loaded some ammo with the loading book info, and cases stick in the chamber and need to be knocked out with cleaning rod ,i polished the chamber out but the cases looked bulged about a 1/3 of the case length from the Rim ,i dont know how a 32/20 would have a bulged chamber ?? solution being to shorten and rechamber barrel [ruining originality ]
2.Rebarrel
3.resleeve chamber
4.resleeve chamber an intstall a barrel liner
5.hang in on the wall ,and repeat over and over ''they made them good in the old days ''.
Any thoughts on what i should do with it
Thankyou

Low walls (not talking muskets here) normally came in 24", 26", or 28" barrel lengths depending on calibre.
If, as you posted, your barrel actually measures 27", then I'd suspect something has already been altered.

A liner will take care of both the chamber and the rough rifling.

Before doing anything drastic, you could try your loads in Starline cases.  They're supposed to be a little stouter and harder than the other available brass.

I once had a Stevens 44-1/2 barrel, pristine outside and 90% pristine inside, in .25-20 Single Shot.  Unfortunately, the other 10% was a nasty pitting an inch ahead of the chamber, caused by the corrosive and erosive primers of olden times.  Tried everything to make it shoot, to no avail, and cried all the way to the FedEx shipping place when I sent it off to be relined and rechambered in the original caliber.  But it does shoot now, and very well.

Sometimes you just have to let the past go Embarrassed.

Or a cheaper, but non-traditional, solution: simply rechamber it to one of the short 32's on a 357 Mag or Maximum case.  They're typically a .321" bore so you might have to chop some off a 32-20 sizing die or buy a 32 S&W sizing die to neck size, but it'd save you money and still leave sleeving or relining as an option.

If it were mine and I thought the rifle and components were okay. I would dial back the pressure, do little or no sizing after the cases fire form, and then see what happens.

Can you post a picture of the bulged case? Close up?

My very first real single shot was a lowall 32-20. Had a lot of fun with that little rifle. Great plinker.

If an older 32/20 doubt that it would be .321 that's a pretty new version

My lowall 32WCF has been rebuilt from a parts wreck; new block, barrel liner etc.

Loaded with a 120gn original bullet from a Winchester mould and sized to 0.314" produced this group at 75 yards!

A local gunsmith used a TJ liner. This is the third one I've had done; the others are 44 Special and 38/40 (both 92's)
