Prepping some 25/20's new Starline Brass formed from 32/20 fired in the 25/20 rifle once

Fired case neck I/D is .260, my cast bullets are .259 O/D

Using NRA's Handloading as a reference appears .260 fired is about right. Don't think my chamber is oversized

Lyman sizing die is taking the I/D down to .249. Lyman M die back up to .254 Even in a repeater I would be looking for about .003 less than the bullet size maximum. I can seat the bullets in the .254 neck but it's definitely too much squeeze

Die is over-sizing for sure. What ID do you guys see in the 25/20. Even the M die looks off to me. I can't see a good reason to seat a .259 bullet in a .254 Neck

Might be I ought to go to CH4D for a bushing neck size die.

Single Shot or WCF Boats and which one are your dies for if that might possibly make a diffferance?  Way beyond my field of expertise it just happened to come to mind. I typicaly shy away from such posts and leave it to the experts or those who seem to feel they are. This is simply just a shot in the dark, any differance between the two would have to be in the original brass design in the neck area one would think with the bullet OD still being the same and your reformed cases possibly being thinner in this area?

John, It's a WCF & so are the dies. Heck I don't know any real experts, do know some that have opinions. That's a good thing all opinions considered. Some may be right too.

That's a point I had not considered. Will mike the wall thickness see if it's the issue. I can ream the necks & open up some if needed. May have gained right  much thickness from 32/20 to 25/20

Thinking  a CH4D ring neck sizer would cure the problem.  If it's thick walls that may not be the answer. Little Marlin 1894 is going to cost me more than I thought to get up and running.  On the other hand if I wanted easy would be shooting a modern gun.

It has potential though, been shooting practice with it, good scores.

If you were closer I would simply crank up the lathe and do whatever it is that is needed to make it work! Opinions and assumptions generally do not fix a thing Boats as stated, but with the help of a close friend if so equipped it will and at a lesser cost Free!

boats, are the fired cases expanding all the way?  Seems like they should be bigger than that.

Boats,

I don't know if this helps at all.  I just went out and reformed an old WRA 32 WCF case I had sitting on my computer desk to 25-20 in my RCBS neck sizing die.  OD of the reformed case was .2696" (micrometer), ID about .252" (calipers).  That makes the neck thickness of the reformed case just under .009".

I don't know if the ID of my RCBS neck sizing die is typical for this product, but perhaps the RCBS neck sizer isn't quite as tight as your Lyman die.

Sorry, I didn't have any un-reformed Starline 32-20 brass, and all my reformed brass is sized and primed or loaded.

Good information all, I figure the dies are intended for Jackated bullets at .257 while my cast are .259 which accounts for the case over sizing and too much bullet pull.

Am working on ring neck sizers  now

Jy those dim's help thanks a lot

And it's something I knew but did not think about. My other Pistol Caliber is a 38/40 Dies were not a issue with it. No doubt intended for cast bullets from the start.

I have found that Lyman dies are tighter in both the body and the neck. As a result you also have higher sizing force.
The undersize neck can be lapped out with an Acro Lap barrel lap

This guy will show you how it is done.
