MY BENCH REST RIFLE

I bought this rifle from the Dean Lillard estate. It has a very heavy barrel on a Falling Block Works action. The barrel was made by Bo Clerke. He also did the mounting and chambering. It is made of 4140 steel and has a Rockwell hardness of 28. It has a 1/16 twist and has a grove of .408. The barrel is 2 inches in diameter and the rifle weighs 29 pounds with the scope which is a Tasco 6 -18 x 40mm. Since I couldn't find 30-40 Krag brass I fire formed 303 brass. I think the round is close to being a 40 Maynard if not the same. Don't quote me on that. I took it to the range yesterday to shoot it for the first time and I got so many curious onlookers and so many distractions that the results were not good. I couldn't understand why the shots were so dispersed until I was packing up to leave. While taking the scope off I found that the set screw on the rear mount was loose. ARRRGH. #%&$###

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

I will report any good results, if I get any. Nobody likes bad news. The barrel is 30 inches in length and the rig weighs 29 pounds. My gun bearer's name is Punjabb.

There was a Darr built rifle for sale awhile back that you could stand up on the muzzle, 3" barrel if I recall right possibly more can't remember exacty. Started out as a 32-40 and was changed to something else down the line according to the sales add.

Neat looking rifle, and yours is definitely bigger than mine. You'll have a blast shooting it.

I also have a Darr barrel in 32-40 on a Martini action but it is only 1-1/4, I think. I haven't looked at it in a long time. The problem we have here is the distance we have to drive to the range. I have many nice single shots but I am lucky to shoot each one, once a year.

Really nice looking bench rifle. I like big-barreled single shot rifles. However, now I'm embarrassed to post a picture of my 1.75" Borchardt.

Maybe Bruce (bk43) should chime in here. It's my understanding that only extends to people that shoot the ISSA regional.

That rifle resembles Dolly Parton, boobs/barrel with a body/action attached!

Cherry Valley is located 6 miles north of the I-10 on HiWay 79, just north of Beaumont, Ca.
