Mann Targets who still uses them?

I was wondering who besides Davenport still uses the mann targets.

I am also looking into their origins and they seem to have been invented in the U.S.

Here is what I believe is a 75 foot indoor version.

I have read of them having the heart in the center during the golden age.  Davenport also just has a circle.

The paper profile looks sorta like the 3-D Mann-equin someone set out at the range yesterday, which definitely got well used, though there wasn't any heart pictured on it.

Here is an example of the Davenport Mann Target (200 yard).

Here is a 200 yard mann target from St Louis that looks VERY similar to the 75 foot target as well.

I know they are used, but just don't like human form targets.
Just personal opinion.

I hear you, in Germany they even paint pictures of their most popular schuetzenverein members and all shoot at them.  Personally, I like the variation and that it is a construct of the German/Swiss immigrants and their descendants.

Many clubs in the USofA do honor targets to honor departed members. They usually are a picture or drawing of the person to be honored.

Here is a picture of the Frank Zika Honor Target. A mark is placed on the back of the target to determine the winner. No one knows where the mark is so it is a luck target.

I think the anthropomorphic shape of the Mann target--with the heart or not and the name------perhaps was a bit of a turn-off in the era when shooters were trying anything possible to emphasize the "sport" and de-emphasize any germanic-militaryesque aspects of the sport to make it more whatever P.C was called back then.  there was a de-Germanification going on as the community bent over backwards (perhaps too far--from our perspective of course) in order to survive.

I think it'd be an interesting target to shoot------there are some interesting parallels in the old English Long-bow "wand-shooting"---I wish we could try some offhand at EG both at 200 and scaled down for the 100 and 50 yard rimfire as an informal demonstration or trial match

Laurie, great target, Frank would have loved it. Who painted it?

I have a Lone Star rolling block with a Frank Zika rear sight. The rifle was built in 1993.  I would be interested in getting some information on Frank Zika, if anyone would like to share.
