Anyone having trouble getting their grease groove bands to fill out completely with nice sharp edges while using a Brass base pour Mould?

No. A fully warm mould, hot lead (~825), full dipper contact for a count to 7, and Bob's your uncle. 360 grain 38 and 400 grain 40 from Bernie Rowles at Old West.

John,

I don't have issues with a brass mold in 25-20 WCF using 20:1 alloy.  It might be more difficult with lower tin levels.  I seem to recall you use 30:1 but I could be mistaken.

Try scrubbing the blocks out with some dish soap and a toothbrush. Really work it into the corners, it may be contaminants.

Thanks John I will give it a try!
I have never really had this problem before to this degree and I am about to pull my hair out one strand at a time. I thought I would pose the question here should someone else be having the same problem and the answer to the fix once it is found.

Thanks Again!

John,

How about a really long shot...are you using any of those vapor rust preventative packets around where you store the molds?  The problem is likely due to organic contamination.  I had problems when I used too much bees wax for flux or was it old lube that didn't work...?  In any case it was a devil to get things clean.  I nearly got to the point of boiling my molds in dishwasher cleaner, the powdered stuff.

I now cast with charcoal on the lead and periodically stir the melt with a DRY wooden stick.   I don't use wax fluxes, I prefer the dreaded Marvalux.   BTW...don't use charcoal briquettes, they contain a binder called lingosulfonate that is full of sulfur.  Also be mindful of carbon monoxide from the charcoal if casting inside.

When all else fails, smoke it with a wooden match or candle.

I got it up and going a good cleaning as recommended by John Merz and then I burned / cleaned out the bullet cavity with a Propane Torch.

Thanks for all of the advice my Friends!
