I need the crosshairs replaced in a Winchester A5 scope.  Do you know anyone who will do it?
Thanks

I would contact  Bob Seipp,  old.scopes@gmail.com, I think he should be able to help out.

Check with 218Bee, here on the forum. I had him replace cross-hairs on several scopes. He did a great job, VERY fast turn around, and reasonably priced.

Replacing the cross hairs on an A5 Win scope would be about a twenty minute job, if that. If you unscrew the eyepiece you can easily remove the brass ring that the cross hairs are soldered to. If can find some very fine wire, do the job yourself.

Thanks for all the info.  I will get one of these guys to do it.

It seems very straight forward and I thought I could do it myself.  Got the proper wire, attached it the brass ring ok, but alas, cannot get it back in without breaking the wire.  Tried several times, I have now come to the conclusion that I'm not smart enough or nimble enough to deal with such things.  Smiley
Thanks again
Phil

What, no post or post with horizontal crosshair reticles?     Wink

Phil, I am sorry you couldn't get the brass ring back into the scope without breaking the wire. It has been several years since I did mine and I think I simply used my fingers but I think you could place the brass ring on a wooden dowel and insert it without actually touching it with your fingers. I was at the range one day and another shooter was showing the range master a cadet rifle with an A5 on it. It also had a broken cross hair. He thought it would require sending the scope in for repair until I showed him how easy it was to remove the brass ring. I offered to relieve him of the problem by buying the scope but he didn't hear me. I think he paid less than $300 for the rifle with the scope. When BPCS started, the A5 scopes were selling for 7 to 8 hundred bucks. When repos came on the scene those prices dropped considerably. I traded mine for a nib Redfield INT. Natl. with 1/8 minute clicks. I thought I got the better of the deal until I learned the truth and the truth hurt, as it often does.

Those blondes grow good sight hair.  According to the late, great Paul Harvey, The gobbermint found one special blonde with especially fine  hair to donate to the war effort in WWII.  Her hair was used for all the bomb sights.

I have never done this but have been told spider web and single strands of dental floss make good cross hairs too.  I had one repaired by a shooter at our range and I think he used spider web, but it has been 20 + years and memories fog up. It is still going strong.

For really fine hair you need to find a redhead.

Could you even see a redhead's hair when shooting the target with the red center?
