Commercial cast ?

Possibly a stupid question, is any one offering commercial cast bullets for the 40 rifles?

Getting things together for a 40 70 SS

Won't likely shoot it enough to justify a mold

Also suggest load data for informal target lead loads?

Thanks Ron, Fallon NV Smiley

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) makes nice bullets and has a good selection of 40 caliber, plain-based bullets.

Forgot to add plinking load info. With 250 & 300 grains bullets I use 20.0 gr IMR4759. For 400 gr Snover bullets it takes 2,0 grains or so more to keep these nice bullets from stringing vertically.

Montana Bullet Works has a nice RCBS 300gr C-Sharps "spire point" that I hope to develop good loads for my 40-65, both 4759 and Swiss BP. Hopefully this bullet and RCBS 300gr Flat Point lever gun bullet will group really close together, so I will have interchangable target and hunting loads.

For my 40-65 I used .41 cal pistol bullets with smokeless to plink with.

Other good suppliers are (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links), (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links), along with Buffalo Arms in ID, to name three. No shortage of suppliers of soft-cast or hard-cast bullets.

Be sure the alloy is correct and not too hard. Be sure you know the groove diameter of the barrel.

Thanks for all the leads and suggestions. Since ID is next door so to speak, might check them out first.. I move pretty slow, have a Chiappa action and fit a Bridgeport Sharps barrel.
I found Treebone offered a Pedersoli turned 90 percent with some decent figure, so just another of my too many projects that I need to get back into now that my shop has started being warm. Grin

Thanks again, Ron

For 200 yd offhand shooting in my 5 different  40 cals from 40-50 to 40-60 to  40-65 to 40-70 SS, Meister cast makes a nice, very accurate 260 grainer RNFP over 16-19 grains 4759 or your choice of 4227 or 5744, or Unique 8-10 grains. I am not affiliated in any way with MC, for the record, just buy them by the ton.
