I picked this rifle up this weekend at a local auction. It was listed as a model 1 1/2 Remington. On the left side of the action is Pattants May 3 1864, May-June 11,Nov 2-Dec 24, Dec 31872, Sept 9 1873. On the bottom of the barrel flat is 22 RF, with what looks like an o in front of the forend dove tail, It also has a Capital A in front on the receiver. the #H-41970 is on the bottom tang, also on the but cap and stock. Thanks for any info on this rifle

It's a #2. the 1 1/2's are the same as the #1 sporting but are not as wide and have the patten numbers stamp on the left side of the frame, something like Ballards do it.

A nice looking #2.

You seem to be able to find the #2 in RF more often than CF. Does any one know, if there were that many more produced in RF than CF, or were the CF used longer and shot out and discarded.

I have three #2s, one in 32-20, the other two in 32RF.  The rimfire rifles are marked "32RF" and the other simply "32".  Both of the RFs have the extra long chamber, despite the vague barrel markings.  I also have a #4 in 32RF that is simply marked "32" also, but it has the shorter 32 long RF chamber. I don't know if all 32RF #2s have the extra long chamber or not.  But one cannot rely on the barrel markings to tell.

I load and shoot all three of these rifles.  The 32 extra long rimfire is very close to, but a little shorter than the 32-20.  But has pretty similar ballistics.  For those who have not seen a 32 extra long, here is an original and my reloadable version.
