Griffin & Howe produced headstamped 22-300 cases and JB Smith did a run headstamped R2.

I had about fifty of the Smith cases I sold but kept one.

Griffin & Howe did have 22-3000 brass made up with their head stamp. I believe it was made by Winchester as I have not seen 22-3000 by Remington. It was good brass I have a 22-3000 and the brass has held up well. Wore out a M54 Winchester shooting woodchucks with 50 Rds and never lost a case but wore a 6" almost smooth bore before it stopped shooting well. Regards, FITZ. Smiley

What's wrong with ya'll?  Crying and moaning over the lack of availability and high price of .34-40, .25-20, and .22 WCF blown out to .35 cal.

ROLL YA OWN!!!  All you BS'ers only need 5 to 10 pieces of .32-40 to last you a lifetime.  .303 or .30-30 is still fairly cheap and fairly common and are laying around at your range just before deer season. It will only cost about $250-300 dollars to buy the reforming and reloading dies.  You can turn out 5-10 cases in just a few minutes and be set for life. Let's see--that comes out to $30. a case not counting moulds, lead, tin, powder, and primers.   Shocked Cry
50 pieces of .32-40 @ $3.00 a piece on GB seems pretty cheap to me.  Grin
Just sayin..........

No kidding!

If the price of Brass is now rising faster than the price of Silver and Gold, it may be time to rethink the investment strategy.    Wink

Can't see why - the price of scrap copper is pretty-well at rock bottom.

I have a very heavy barreled rifle that I bought from a friends estate. It was made for him by Bo Clerck and it is in 40 Krag. He told me years before he passed that he chose that case because at the range 30-40 brass was laying all over the ground. I have been going to public shooting ranges in California since 1956 and I have never picked up a single piece of 30-40 brass. The barrel is beautiful but brass is hard to get, maybe impossible. I have some 303 that I have blown out but now I hear they are dropping that as well. Bugger

There are still mountains of surplus loaded ·303" ball in the system. Problem is, they didn't make enough BREN guns.

Don't fall for this... it's a hoax!  J Louis, frankeore, Froggie, westerner, Schuetzendave, to name a few, all those we novices idolize on this forum are behind this run on the .32-40.  Those cagey old-timers have us believing a shortage is to come, AGAIN.  Remember the run on silver years ago?

/snip/

Yes - remember it well - but that was because Bunker-Hunt didn't have enough fingers to do his counting on, and misjudged the amount of silver in the world when he reckoned he was going to buy the lot.

He lost rather a lot of fortunes.

I just ordered 250 ea. 38-55 2.125" brass direct from Starline @ 56¢ per (free shipping)  for reforming to 32-40 Win.  NOS Winchester 32-40 brass is currently $3.10 per on GunBroker and loaded ammo just went for $4.50 per round (not box).

I just finished making 32-40's out of the long 38-55  (2.125) cases.
The first suggestion to anyone thinking about doing this is to buy the shorter brass. You'll find that you'll have to trim .040 to .050" because that brass will lengthen during the process. I did anneal my brass and I believe that might add 10 to 15 thousands over unannealed brass. I had a few unannealed pieces that I measured too and they appeared to lengthen slightly less.
The annealing saves a lot of ruined cases from crumpling and deforming of the mouths.
Hope that saved someone else a few bucks.

New levels of affluence reached!  A bag of 50 ea. Winchester 32-40 brass just sold for $201 on GB, or $4.01 each.  Just a couple of years ago that sold for around $37.50!

At those prices, Winchester may decide to start selling brass as a reloading component again.     Grin
