Pablom, it sounds as if you've got a paper patch chamber designed to use a bore size paper patch bullet, not a groove size bullet. That's my take on it.

Sorry about the slow response 
Anyway the groove dia. Is . 407- .408
I have no expirence with paper patch loads. Any easy way to use grease groove bullets? Thanks y'all !!!!!

Captech does have 40-70 Sharps Straight brass.  I bought a couple hundred cases for my 1885.

pablom, you can use a grease grove bullet sized so that it will not bulge the case and be too tight a fit in the chamber. But you will have to use a soft Alloy. I did well with 30/1 Lead/Tin.
They bumped out neatly and Shot well. That was with Smokeless Powder. I also used Fg Black with a Duplex load, it shot even better. HTH Regards, FITZ. Smiley
