32-40 High Wall

Well fellas one day I stopped in at one of my local haunts during lunch. This is where I spied a Winchester 1885 Traditional Hunter chambered in 32-40. I kept my composure played it cool, then went outside and immediately called my buddy Byron. Well we talked about the rifle and how it would be a good way for me to get into the "centerfire game" with the Ben Avery Schuetzen program. The next day he met me at the shop. He checked out the rifle and gave it his nod of approval. This guy's opinion goes pretty far. I went ahead and purchased it.
I did a little research and purchased a Browning BPCR butt stock. I figured it would be more friendly off the bags than the English style butt stock with the crescent butt plate. Upon arrival I discovered it needed some altering to fit. Byron always seems like he's up for a chance to mess with a single shot so I asked if he'd help me out.....with zero hesitation he jumped in and helped with the fitting.
Also enter my buddy Randy aka RSW. He helped with slugging the barrel and setting me up with some molds and valuable assistance with casting. Thanks Randy Smiley
Byron and I have gone on to cast some bullets and get the stock together. Next, I'm going to get some trigger work done, get the scope mounted and get geared up for breech seating.
As you can tell I'm very excited to get this rifle to the range when completed.
I just figured I'd share this experience and post some pics of the rifle. Just want to say thanks to my friends/mentors. I'm a really lucky guy. The Ben Avery Schuetzen group has been really helpful and have become good friends of mine. Thanks guys for letting me grab a hold of the torch.

Nice rifle. It will serve you well.

Friends/mentors are way beyond any value you could place on them.

Where did you find the stock (and how much did it cost)?
These should have all come with the PG and shotgun BP (at least as an option). Thanks.

I've owned three (3) Traditional Hunter Win-Miroku rifles NIB (.223, 32-40 & 38-55) and all came with the straight-grip stock & crescent buttplate (which is punishing with the 38-55 in anything but off-hand shooting).

With a Lee shaver trigger job and a John Stepps adjustment screw you can get a safe 8 oz trigger.......

It's been asked on a previous post but I'll ask again; where did you get the stock and fittings, I see the metal is in the white, very interested.

I purchased the stock from the Browning parts dept. I needed to put a little sawdust and epoxy compound behind the tang to fill a gap. See pic below and look close Smiley Stock cost $420 shipped.

I was afraid of that. Browning wood isn't ever cheap, but it does improve things  Wink

Thanks for the quick reply, good to know about the tang differences. I may go with a CPA stock when the time comes to upgrade my Traditional Hunter.
