I have a Stevens Pope marked barrel, under the forearm is stamped  the #1613. From what I have read here Pope worked on approx. 1250 barrels for Stevens.  Did Stevens continue to sell Stevens Pope marked barrels after Harry left the company?  Any a all info. would be appreciated.

Yes, until he sued them to stop them from using his name.

What would you guess at value of Ballard 3 finger loop PG, barrel number in 550s, false muzzle and starter, silver action all CC gone and not really well done bluing?  I think the bluing is original to Stevens Pope barrel. Excellent bore  Grin

The final number is, I believe between 1252 and 1254 for Stevens Pope.
As far as the differences between Pope and non-Pope barrels from Stevens, again I believe that, the difference was Pope himself. It is my opinion that the division of labor at Stevens was that the plant furnished drilled barrel blanks to Pope and that Pope reamed and rifled them. Pope was fanatical about the reaming of his barrels and I cannot see him delegating that to the mass production standards of the general shop. The set up that Pope used for his gain-twist barrels doesn’t lend its self to mass production either and he has stated in letters that he rifled all the barrels while he was at Stevens. Ross was a competent workman but not of the same caliber as Pope.

Hey 40_Rod . . . that pun was funny.
So if Pope was a 33-47 what caliber would Ross have been?
28-30 ?
25-21 ?
or perhaps 22-15 ?    Wink
For those who may not know, Fred Ross was one hell of a good shot.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.
