Someone stole a Hepburn ???

I bid on this rifle and no one was playing. I fell asleep last night before the auction ended and lost it for just a few $$...!!!!!

I was at $1621 and it sold for $1646.....Son of a Gun!

Why didn't this rifle go much higher. I don't think I've ever seen a Hepburn sell so low. I understand it was a bit of a strange duck as a 219 Zipper, but that is a great cartridge for PDs and I have a Stevens 44 1/2 in it so I was ready to go reloading wise.

I like the sporter version a lot. Needs a more powerful scope.
Reb, that one you got is a beauty- I like it even more. Will I ever get a Hepburn?

Rebel,    Nice score. I've been looking for a couple years and have never found anything close to that nice for under $2000

Rebel, do you have Brass for that? There is an ad in the latest Single Shot Exchange by a guy named Vance selling .40-50 SS for $75.00 + shipping per 100 rounds. Have bought 200 from him. He has them made from 30-40 brass and 303 British. I have 30-40 REM-UMC and WW western. He is good to deal with. He is in Montana. If you don't have a copy reply here and I will give you all his contact information. Regards, FITZ. Smiley

RoyB, sorry you got beat out on that one. ( it wasn't by me)  Look on the bright side, there are still some rare and precious ones still up for auction.  Wink

I like when an auction starts low, I think you get a sense of the value of the rifle. Or just get lucky.  Those $2500 starting prices  have been there a long time.  you'd think the owners would realize that there are folks crazy for #3's  out there, We're just not that crazy.

Not bidding at Amoskeag next week are you ?

06....I'll need to check out Amoskeag. I really "need" a Hepburn to finish my collection.

I have one of those Missouri Trader kits but lord knows when I'll find the time to finish it.

Let me know if you hear of anything in nice condition...38-??....around $2K

Thanks!

Vall,
I do think the prices of decent old singleshots are coming down.  I've been watching these for a long time and prices are not going up.  Rebel got a nice deal on his Hepburn from RIA and the other one was also under 2 grand.  That included the buyers fee.

If you search 1885 Winchesters, you can see they didn't bring much either.  With a little patience and searching when you have time, they can still be had for a good price.

Ah, takes me back to my college days when my gun shop had a choice of a 32-40 Hepburn with a new stock for $140 or a Borchardt with an 8.15x46 barrel for $125. I took the Borchardt. Never could get fond of the stock lines of a Hepburn.

Hepburns aren't going down, so better get used to over $2,000 prices. I'd still buy more if they're priced right, and I'm lucky enough to be there!

Absolutely. Two of mine were 'varmintized' (219 Zipper and 22 Lovell). The wood was 'big', but nice, so had it cut down to a Hepburn shotgun butt pattern. Shooting my first match with the 38-50 tomorrow. Should be fun.

The hand written letter does say 1933. But in my memory I believe Pope did pass in 1953. Boy it sure is a beautiful outfit.
