25 Stevens ammo

Print Post
Hi all,
Knowing that I have some oddball single shot stuff, a friend of mine found a box of ammo for me...
Full sealed box of Remington Kleanbore 25 Stevens (long).
Box has part of one end tab missing so I can see that the cases/bullets are as clean and shiny as the day they were made.
Best part... $60
I am happy and had to share.
Thanks,
Dave

You got a good deal on that one. Usually $2-$3 a round by now.

If yer gonna shoot the stuff, take care to preserve the box if it's in good shape. You will get something back for it that will make that deal even better!

Since "part of one end tab missing", the value of the box will be severely affected to collectors. But still worth something.

I have not tried to shoot any .25 RF for accuracy, but I did try it with some 1947 coded Remington Shorts.  A couple of flyers were 4" out at 25 yards.  That stuff is for collectors only.  I would not expect that shooting the 25 RF stuff will give accuracy, may make a guy regret shooting up the collectibles.

I have a good supply of the Canuck from the '70's. I did some informal comparisons with it in my Stevens 418 Walnut Hills between the .22 Long Rifle, .22 Short, .22 WRF, and .22 Stevens. The .22 Stevens seemed to be the least accurate. .22 Long Rifle the best followed by the .22 Short. All guns have pristine bores. The .25 Stevens Short was not nearly as accurate as the .25 Long. Need to compare some of the earlier other brands of .25 that I have. Hate to shoot much of that stuff because I don't have a lot and its worth a lot as collectable ammo.

I've got a half dozen boxes of .25 Stevens to shoot in a Ballard #3 that I own. It was rebored by Stevens to their cartridge and I occasionally shoot it for fun. It's extremely accurate, but I've never tried the short Stevens .25 in it.

Aguila has made a run of .22 Automatic ammunition, which is used only in the Win 03.
If they are willing to reproduce that rather unique rimfire cartridge, maybe they would be receptive to making a production run of .25 Stevens.

I wonder what it takes to get them to do a run? Letter writing campaign?

I don't plan on shooting this stuff.
I have a way to enjoy my Ballard in 25 Stevens.

I'm not sure that Aguila could/would ever recoup the start-up costs involved.
It would be nice but I don't see any manufacturer sticking out their financial neck for a limited market.

Could be wrong, but something makes me think there were more rifles chambered in the .25 Stevens than in .22 Winchester Automatic rimfire.      Undecided

Since the .25RF blanks are still available for shot charges for anchoring in concrete, I would think that whoever makes the shot charge blanks could easily work up .25 Stevens RF without a great deal of extra expense to tool up.
I've toyed with the idea of trying the .25RF blank charges, and breech seating bullets. Just uncertain of whether the charges are light enough as they come, or too hot to even start with.

Surprised to hear you also have a Ballard in .25 Stevens! Considering the cartridge didn't arrive on the market until after Ballard production stopped, it must have been a popular rework!
Is yours a re-bore by Stevens, new barrel, or re-bore by someone else?

I am not familiar with .25 Blanks used for concrete but I have used .27 caliber power loads by breach seating the bullet with some success. Its been discussed here in the past.

As far as I can tell, the 27 caliber Ramset nail gun blanks are made by Remington; but I can't find what their dimensions are? Dose anybody have some of these things they can measure? Can someone post a picture of one Huh
