Geez Frank, thanks one heck of a lot.  You seem to be right on the money.  Except the weight is 208gr using 1:25 Rotometal alloy.  Since it's a custom mold gonna call it the Hoch-frnkeore 322200.

Thank you very much Frank. I'm surprised at how low the BC of the Hoch 32200D is.

I will do more careful measurements this afternoon and post any differences.

Chris.

The short ones.

If I get conformation on all of dimension for these, I'll add them to the Bullet Design Sticky.

Frank  Noticed the base on the Zischang  bullet print .  Can you comment on the type / purpose of that base design . tia   bwgdog   Smiley

I'm not sure on this bullet. The Elliptical area doesn't match very well. Elliptic's are based on two dimensions, X & Y and the profile of the pictured bullet looks more like a multi caliber spitzer, with a round nose but, it's not to far off.

Chris, can you varify where the ogive starts on your bullet?

Many of the old Ideals had that. It's a "starter" area to get it in the case. This is a Ideal, 25 cal. They use a little bit of the groove for it. I assume the Zischang would be the done like that, too. It predates the modern, bevel base.

Frank - just wanted to let you know I went to the range and used the BC data you provided.  Fed info into my ballistics calculator & spreadsheet, adjusted tang sight from 100yd zero to 50yds (3.9 MOA down) - 3" bull, right on the mark for elevation. Yea - I HATE THE WIND!!!

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Hi Frank,

Here are the corrections to the Zischang.  I figured I'd post this one first as it's a historically interesting mold. Actually I have three, probably identical, that came with the rifle.  They are all adjustable with a brass plug, each is set to a different length.  I have only cleaned and used the longest mold.  Interestingly the sprue plate is vented on the underside.

The only differences I can see are that the lube grooves are very shallow ( 0.309" ) and, as far as I can tell, they are very close to square.   Two bands are also different.  I've marked them in the attachment.

Frank here is the Brooks grease groove mold.  It might not be worth saving in your library.  It's a custom one I got Brooks to cut because the Hoch 322200D was undersized, and the Saeco 200gr was oversized, especially on the base.  I goofed up and should have put less taper into the bullet.  It fits my Badger barreled CPA not too badly, but the two bands closest to the nose are undersized and don't engrave.  It fits my new CPA with the Douglas barrel better, but still no engraving on the band closest to the nose.  I've only shot this bullet in the new CPA once as I only had a dozen or so on hand.  On the rifles first outing with that barrel, after three shots to get sort of centered up, it put the next 8 into 0.9" high by 1.7" wide at 223 yards.  I will tweak the dimensions a bit and get Mr. Brooks to cut a new one though.

Now the Brooks paper patch elliptical one.   On mine, the nose and shank have equal lengths.  If I were to get another mold I would actually make it just like your drawing.  I think the longer shank would be an advantage.  I shoot this one breech seated with black powder and I think it bumps up a bit too much.

Thank you very much Frank.  Also thanks for enlightening me on the reason for the reduction in diameter on the base of the mold.
