BC estimates for these .32 cal bullets

Print Post
Hi,

I have a few different .32 cal bullets that I shoot.  Can anyone give me BC estimates for them?

Hoch nose pour .322200
Hoch .32 Darr style bullet 200gr
Saeco 200gr tapered.

Thanks very much,

Chris.

Chris,
If you can post clear pictures of them as well as the length and diameter. I can scale the rest of it and run them through my bullet program.

CR,
I've copied it to my computor and will try to work with it but, as posted here, the edges aren't very distinct. I need pictures that look more like this.

CR,
Those are much better pictures, thank you.

I think I can make out the parallel, bore riding area but, if you have a mic, set it to that (or a little tighter) .314 and spin the bullet, then measure length of the shiny area or send a picture of that, also. The  diameter of the grooves would also be helpful.

The Groove diameter is .321, bands are .321, the bore diameter is .314, it starts in front of the first band.  The shiny area is: .190.

CR,
Thank you.

What I ment was the depth of the grease grooves in the bullet but, I think I can figure that out from the last picture.

Once I polished that nose Roll Eyes I was better able to measure the nose length.  I think the nose length is .275, which is 1.6 diameters for a BC of .270 (tmtpages calc.).  Wonder how close that is to your calc?

Hi Frank,

I don't want to cause you a lot of work.  I just figured that someone would have data for these bullets as they are pretty common.  I will attach a picture and some measurements of some of my .32-40 bullets in a few minutes.

Chris.

Here are my .32-40 bullets and approximate dimensions.  I just quickly did some measurements with my calipers. They could be off by a tiny bit.  The Saeco ones especially as the moulds are not exactly perfectly round.   The second Brooks mold is one of my favorites.

From left to right:
1) Hoch 322200, 1.070" long, 0.120" meplat.  driving bands taper from 0.320" to 0.311"

2) Brooks Elliptical PP bullet.  1.048" long, 0.310" diameter.

3) Saeco tapered 200gr.  1.040" long, 0.19" meplat, tapers from 0.322" to 0.313"

4) Saeco tapered 165gr.  0.886" long, 0.19" meplat, tapers from 0.323" to 0.312"

5) Brooks 198gr.  1.050" long, 0.120" meplat, tapers from 0.322" to 0.313"

6) Original Zischang mold.  I thought I'd throw this one in as some might find it interesting.  Although I've read that he used only cylindrical bullets, the molds I have use a very small amount of taper.  I have not shot this rifle yet so don't know how they shoot.
0.975" long, meplat 0.16", slight taper from 0.320" to 0.318"

7) Darr - I have not used this one yet.  It appears to be around 1.17" long, and I believe 0.322" in diameter.  Weight should be 205gr.

Chris.

First up is the 1.072 long Hoch. CR, check the dimensions against your bullet.
